When Ohio LOP ends
I like LOP because it's easy to win at.
I liked SLP because it had big jackpots, considering the odds.
As good a game as LOP is, I do think it's time for it to end. It is not going to last. The jackpot it getting hit way too often. I think that now that players know that it can be hit, they are going out and playing a bit more.

Probability of a MegaMillions rollover.
For the purposes of my calculations, I don't pay any attention whatsoever to the annuity value, which is just marketing. I include them here because that is what most people think about. But the numbers I offer for annuity are after the fact calcuations. The actual thing that I model is sales, not jackpots, cash or otherwise. I use the figures at . Previously I estimated sales, but the lottoreport figures are very accurate. She gets them as a press report directly faxed from variou

Do Playing Quick Picks Ever Work??
Ever wonder why some jackpots get really large before hitting.. then at other times they hit within a few draws apart?
I have given it a lot of thought while working in the Lotto Store.. When the purse gets to be over 100 million.. more and more people come in.. the purse grows.. and more qps are given.. If it continues this way for draw after draw,, customers get tired of standing in line.. and start buying multiple draws.. and bang it hits.. Every possible combination is given..as more

Lottery participants celebrate opening of S.C. claims center
Ah, another reason for me to move to SC. I think all states should have a few centers where a winner can claim his prize. Here we can go to the local office in Fort Myers if we win less than $250,000. For the bigger jackpots, it's necessary to go all the way to Tallahassee.
Speaking of Cash or Annuity, I wonder if that makes a difference? I think it's the size of the prize not the payout that determines where it has to be claimed. Probably every state has different rules.

13 State Employees to Share $224 Million Powerball Lottery Jackpot
Hi Floyd,
Thanks for the input. It seems our thinking is similar on this matter. I would very much like to hear what Todd has to say on this subject.
Other than that just a few comments:
I never watched Happy Days but DAMN...I must lead a culturly deprived life because I never heard the phrase jump the shark before. From reading the wikipedia info I gather that Todd meant people were wondering if Powerball had strayed from it's original intent which was to raise as much money for t

Why not a lottery that goes "wide"?
That's because there isn't that much interest. People playing jackpot games want a large jackpot for themselves. Most don't want a socialist ideal of no one being rich.
I also play for smaller jackpots. In WA state the pick 5 here is Quinto and when it breaks 2 million or so I start buying tickets. I am also playing for a jackpot but a smaller jackpot with better odds. If people want to play for smaller pots state games offer that but with much better odds than the multi-state games.

Why not a lottery that goes "wide"?
Ohio tried that years ago before the multi-state games when its state lottery was the most popular one in the area. It had several big winners from Pennsylvania and Indiana and some people thought too many players were winning big and not sharing so a limit of $20M per ticket regardless of the jackpot size was tried. They found out that advertising a $60M jackpot with a limit of $20M per ticket didn't attract any more players than advertising a $20M jackpot and the rule was eliminated after th

Why not a lottery that goes "wide"?
Instead of Powerball and Mega Millions jackpots of hundreds of millions of dollars for one winning ticket, why not have a payout table that puts more money into the lower prizes- say put a ceiling on the jackpot at $50,000,000 abd after that put more money into 5 of 5 and no PB or MM number, or draw an additional set or two of numbers for the same tickets people are holding? Kind of a new "second chance" approach.
In other words, with a jackpot of over $50,000,000, an additional set of numbe
