Lottery gadfly not betting on getting top post
Yes, I agree. As most of you know, Ms. Nettles runs LottoReport.com, and she's no more impressed with Indiana's methods and tactics than she is with the intricate gyrations of her own state lottery (Texas).I sent her a letter the other day outlining what LosingJeff and I have uncovered about the Hoosier Lottery. She hasn't replied yet, but she is a very active consumer advocate, so I'm willing to wait a while for her response. She brings up some very good points about the Texas lottery, and she's

would you take cash or payments on the PB
some additional considerations:1. The top tax rate is roughly 40% including both the federal and state income tax. Because of Powerball's size, the jackpots and the annual annuity payments are probably both going to be taxed at the top rate. Hence there's no significant tax advantage to choosing the annuity. PLUS FOR LUMP SUM.2. The stated interest on the annuity is roughly 4.7 percent. The higher it goes, the more favorable it is to choose the annuity. I think it needs to approach 6 to 6.

Probability of a Rollover in Powerball.
Now I will review the probability of beating Jack's Jackpot. Jack's jackpot was worth $170.5M cash value, and our current cash jackpot is $117.7. The distance we still need to go is $52.8M cash value to match Jack. Graphing the sales figures, I see that the linearity in increases that held for the last 7 drawings has been broken. There is evidence of some lotto fever now.My guess is that this would require $176.8 in sales, three more drawings, and two more rollovers to beat Jack. I will dist

Will Powerball Rollover This Saturday?
True the 'odds' may be astronomical, but fortunately you only have to beat them ONCE. For me believing, and postive imaging is more than half the battle. After all if you don't believe you are going to win it, who will then?Sure it can happen regardless of any belief system, and just out of pure luck alone - but some say luck does not actually exist. But it does seem that at least 70% of the jackpots are won via quick pick, as opposed to using lottery systems. That is why I use 50/50 of each.

A Lotto Carolina? (my first post)
First of all, this is my first post here, so hello to everyone; I have enjoyed getting news about lotteries, especially the upcoming North Carolina Education Lottery (that will be it's official name, by the way; the Lottery Commission met today).I think that NC's lottery should give a little help to our fellow Carolinians in SC. I think that NC should be a member of MegaMillions. It's the big state lottery, and North Carolina is a large state, so it would be a good fit. South Carolinian

Question
Hi everybody! I'm new to these forums. It's nice to see that I'm not the only hopeful lottery winner around. Anyway, my name is Justin and I'm 20yrs old from Orlando, FL. Nice to meet you all! Here's the question: Florida does not participate in the Powerball or Mega Millions lottery drawings. I see that if I were to purchase tickets through primeticketservice.com, according to them, I can still collect if I win. I as just wondering if anyone has any knowledge about that? If I were to somehow wi

Lotto Texas - World's Worst Jackpot Game?
I think 6/49 would be best matrix for Lotto Texas. While millions of Texans buy Lotto tickets, a large of percentage of the state's residents are opposed to gambling.Texas population is roughly 23 million. One would expect that a third would be in the game every Wednesday and Saturday. But, a review of the sales, posted at lottoreport.com, shows the average is about 1.5 to 2 million. This number increases when the jackpots grow, such as the recent Mega Millions jackpot, but falls drastically when

Is PB inferior to MM?
Thank you for your interest in my interest, some LP members! The major thrust for me to happen to calculate PB MM's expected values was just my curiosity, which all of a sudden occurred in my mind while reading the LP posts talking about the lower cash value ratio of PB in compared to that of MM, and some seemingly conflicting opinions on the attractiveness of cash and annuity.First of all, income tax was the most tricky factor in calculating the corresponding expected values, largely because

High gas prices may be cutting into lottery sales
The evidence is far from conclusive, but some people in the business think high gasoline prices have cut into lottery sales in New Hampshire.Rick Wisler, executive director of the state Lottery Commission, is among them, at least with respect to instant tickets. He reasons that with prices so high, many drivers are using credit or debit cards to pay for gasoline. That means they don't have cash in hand, which depresses impulse purchases such as instant lottery tickets. We believe, although there

Megaplier Petition....
Todd is right, I'm afraid. You have complained about lotteries not doing research, even though it seems you don't do any research either.1. You think Keno is pick 20 out of 80, which it is only on one end. The lottery picks 20, but we're limited to picking 10 (unless you can come up with some complete and expensive wheel).2. You think that bonus ball games like Tri-State Megabucks and NY Lotto are pick-7 games. Wrong again, I fear, and for a similar reason to number 1. They may pick a total of 7
