Lottery no game for Tennessee executive
Standing recently in Neyland Stadium with roaring University of Tennessee football fans, Rebecca Paul Hargrove, the highflying impresario of legalized gambling, proudly waved a symbolic check for a billion dollars. The moment, captured on jumbo screens across the stadium, was among the countless plugs for the fund-raising prowess of Tennessee's lottery, which Hargrove started four years ago. As lottery executives go, few can claim her knack for seizing the spotlight. No matter the occasion, H

Straight Into The Heart Of "Absolute Versatility": Part II
To be on the same wave lenght for the discussion here I am using your number groups with the A B C. What I am looking for when I do columns I am looking for the cycle and repetition of a group of lottery numbers. Actual lottery numbers in columns have a tendency to run in groups in a column for a bit and then break to a new group at varied intervals. The new group may continue on a run in that column or it may not. I use software to track the groups in their column(s) so I have an idea what

Georgia truck driver gets a piece of lottery history
Sometimes it pays to run a little late. Truck driver Ed Nabors was a little behind on his way to work Tuesday morning, so he didn't stop for coffee at his usual place. At lunchtime he bought a cup at nearby Favorite Market convenience store and chose to spend $10 on lottery tickets. Good decision. Nabors, 52, of Rocky Face, Georgia, discovered Wednesday morning that he had won half the record-setting $390 million Mega Millions jackpot in Tuesday night's drawing. I'm still numb,

Realities of winning the lottery
The odds of winning the record $370+ million Mega Millions jackpot is greater than 170 million to one. It's a big number and it's a hard number to put into perspective. If you play $1 each draw, it is expected that you will have to put up your $1 for 170 million drawings before it is statistically likely for your numbers to hit. But that's based on buying only one ticket at a time. Most people buy many tickets and a lot of people participate in lotto pools to increase their chances of

Lottery players learn tough lessons
When Chris Ramesar plays the Florida lottery, sometimes he gets a warning from his 8-year-old daughter, Gabriela. Daddy, she says, remember what happened in New York? Ramesar is a 57-year-old co-owner of an auto body shop in Miami. He is thousands of miles and more than a decade removed from the day he found out his lucky numbers had come up in the New York Lottery. But he hasn't forgotten what happened, or the lesson he eventually learned that it is very hard to sue the Lottery s

N.C lottery retailers caught selling tickets to minors
In August and September, teenagers working for North Carolina state law enforcement officers walked into more than 300 places where North Carolina lottery tickets are sold. They had been given strict and careful instructions. Try to buy a ticket. Carry your real ID. If asked about your age, don't lie. At 91 stores more than 28 percent of the locations checked clerks sold them tickets, even though it is against the law to sell one to a person younger than 18. Such violations were fou

U.S. legislation likely just a speed bump for online gambling
A U.S. law aimed at cracking down on Internet gambling may drive the practice more into the shadows and do little to deter bettors It was getting late on Oct. 12, the night before a sweeping anti-Internet gambling bill would be signed into law. Paul McGuire was at his computer, enjoying one last hurrah on PartyPoker, a site that had pledged to kick off all U.S. users as soon as the law left President Bush's desk. It was kind of like that last party before summer ends when you've got to go ba
