Mega Millions and Powerball Race
I don't think it's because of the third drawing in a week. People tend to buy lottery tickets on a per-week basis, not a per-drawing basis. I suspect that many people who were buying multiple tickets for the Wednesday and Saturday drawings stuck with the same weekly expenditure or maybe added one more ticket. A lot of other players were probably the ones that have to have their chance, even if it's only one ticket, so that's a lot of people that started spending 50% more. Whatever the

$1.7 BILLION: Will Powerball create a Christmas billionaire?
I can't imagine that the actual increase for Wednesday won't be something bigger than the increase for Monday, and simply matching it would result in a final total of 1.745B. Last week sales for Wednesday were about 37% higher than sales for Monday jackpot, and the same 37% increase this time around would add about 73 million, so 1.815ish seems like a fairly safe bet. Now that they had about that same increase I'm even more surprised that we never saw a bump yesterday. I think they really m

$1.7 BILLION: Will Powerball create a Christmas billionaire?
PB will claim they set a new record if the annuity is more than the current $2.04 billion record, but to beat the $997.6 million cash value of that jackpot the annuity needs to be 2.17B, assuming the interest rate doesn't change. The PB worksheet posted on Monday afternoon suggests that a rollover on Wednesday will give us a Saturday jackpot of about $2.11 billion, but I'm not sure the people behind that estimate really have a better idea than anyone else. They came up over $60 million short on

Are you playing Mega Millions with the $5.00 per play?
Any guesses as to the next increase for the Measly Millions, should a rollover happen tomorrow night ? Another $40 Million ?? Another $40M would bring it to $794M. I bet they will go to at least $800M, that is a $46M increase. And that should unfold an even higher increase announced Tuesday night (if jackpot is not hit) for the following Friday (Fridays sales are larger than Tuesdays, so the increase leading to a Friday is significantly larger then the one leading to a Tuesday).

Mega Millions and Powerball Race
The Mega Millions jackpot increased by $37 million to $533 million after 27 rolls. This sets a new 27 roll record for the current format of the game; an increase of $13 million over the previous record. There is an estimated 2.6% chance the Mega Millions jackpot will be won in the next draw. The larger than normal boost in the Mega Millions jackpot was due to an increase in interest rates. Sales are not projected to increase for the upcoming draw despite the much smaller Powerball jackpot at

Mega Millions constant $10 million increases
A $2 prize (times whatever multiplier, so $4 to $20) for matching two white balls would add 18% to the value of all non-jackpot prizes in total. That's a lot for such a small win. More accurately a $2 prize for matching 2 white balls would reduce the money that goes to the jackpot by about 14.6%. That would reduce the current cash value of $67.9 million to $58 million. For those who believe the advertising it would reduce the current $150 million annuity to $128 million if they abandoned or

Lucky For Life price increase coming?
Hey LP LFL Players - Delaware is polling players about increasing the cost of a LFL ticket to $5 - shades of MM uptick. If I missed the memo here, if old news, my apologies. Just wondering if players in any of the other 21 states are getting any insight? The polling does not state definitively that they will increase the cost, but rather how I feel (as a player) about the cost increasing locally or nationally. Of course, the prize structure is changing blah, blah, blah. Just wondering.

It looks as if the $5.00 MM ticket is doing poorly.
Sales are lower. But they are making more money. Do to the price increase. Just one data point, but the first 3 drawings for 400+ had sales of $105 million compared to $117 million for the first 3 drawings for 400 the last time it got there before the price increase. That's just hair under 90%. Looking at PB sales for 3 drawings at 400+ at roughly the same times the more recent run had sales of 88% of the previous sales. Again, that's a limited set of data but it looks like lower MM sal

Bill could increase lottery prize payouts to Pennsylvania players
Legislation would free up funds for bigger prizes By Kate Northrop A Pennsylvania bill that would effectively increase lottery prize payouts to players is awaiting final approval on the Governor's desk. Pennsylvania lottery players may be raking in larger prizes if House Bill 1058 passes, which would reduce the required profit margins the Pennsylvania Lottery is required to take in for state programs. House Bill 1058 has officially passed both the Senate and House, now awaiting a
