Texas students rank USA lotteries
As past discussions at Lottery Post have shown, everyone has their own opinions of what is good vs. bad with a lottery. Taken as a whole, what the class is doing is a good thing to elevate the discussion.
BTW, I also have some problems with the survey, in that NJ is at the bottom. I personally think that New Jersey has an excellent lottery, with the exception of its pari-mutuel payouts for Pick 3 and Pick 4. The fact of no state tax on lottery prizes is a big plus that should elevate it, a

The Implications of Cracking the Code..
People are being murdered over parking spaces in this country.
How about the woman who was beat up because she had 11 items in the express checkout?
Regarding the code I don't believe there is one, although maybe computerized drawings will change that. But just for fun - if I found a way to win $500 a couple of times a week, I would keep it quiet. Remember, you can cash in a $500 ticket at the supermarket without sending in a claim form and paying taxes, so that would be over $4,00

Tenn. Lottery asks firms to pay cost for error
To me Tennessee is the next Indiana. What a shame.
It's funny how people keep using Indiana as the derogatory word even though there are other states that have computerized drawings, in yet, there is still no information given by that person about Indiana to justify the use in that way. So please, explain why Indiana was the word you chose to use. You're trying to make it seem as if the incidences were collaborated by the all-so-evil Hoosier Lottery organization as a whole, as if all Ho

TENNESSEE LOTTERY MAY BE FORCED BACK TO REAL DRAWINGS
Hey all you Lottery Post members who have been posting messages of support, writing to the lottery, calling your reps, and spreading the word, this is what a difference you all made ... and will continue to make.
This is what we can accomplish!
Let's not count our chickens before they're hatched, but this is a BIG STEP. Now is the time to NOT get complacent. Continue telling people about the awful computerized drawings the Tennessee stuck you with!

tennessee lottery has COMPLETELY destroyed its credibility
I would have to disagree. These events were all independent blunders by a lottery that is piling mistake upon mistake. It all began with a bonehead move to computerized drawings, ruining a happy state of balance.
I must say, if there is anything proving that karma exists, this is it.
We reap what we sow.

POLL 1 of 3: Computerized drawings vs. ball drawings
Okay, don't flog me here, but I chose Computerized drawings because that would open up possibilities that maybe it would be possible to create a system that could get hits more often than trying to guess the machine ball outcome.
Seems I've heard that it's pretty tough to actually write a true RNG program and maybe players could spot a rythmn or glitch and take advantage of it.
The outcome of a Mechanical ball machine is pretty tough to unravel in my opinion. Maybe I'd have better luck wit

Official wants fraud probe of Tennessee Lottery
I doubt it was an intentional error or fraud. Most likely it was the result of a software person making a change (or setting an parameter incorrectly) and then making the MAJOR MISTAKE of not TESTING the system after the change.
A SIMPLE software test would have caught this problem. By running a trial statistical sample and looking at the results, it would have been obvious that something was wrong when number combinations had 0.00% hits.
Either way, fraud or an unintentional mistake, this

Pa. Lottery players dig Treasure Hunt game
Hey, I'm from the Poconos. Take my advice, don't live here. It's boring.
Anyway, the reason the game has exceeded expectations is simple, great odds and great returns. It has the best top prize odds of any non-digit game, which people notice right off. And it has the highest prize return (58%), which players don't notice, but they do notice the higher instances of mid-range wins a high return allows. Add that with the $1 price, and it's enough for people to overlook the computerized drawings.

$355 MILLION: Mega Millions lottery jackpot increased
The thing about systems is they are an illusion as far as I can tell, being a mathematics fan. If there was a system, then people would win all the time. Lottery officials go to great lengths to randomize; otherwise, there would be no high jackpots. Any groupings of numbers is just a Gaussian distribution. The longer it is drawn the more random the distribution. If there is a pattern, the game is flawed. All balls are designed to be as equal as possible.
That said, computerized drawings are o
