Powerball Lump Sum cash amount?
I noticed this weekend that the official Powerball site was revamped and no longer posts the lump-sum cash amount for the jackpot (just like the official Mega Millions site does not). I was wondering if Todd would consider posting the lump-sum cash amounts along with the annuity jackpots along the right-hand side of the main page where all the big jackpots are listed. I manage a pool for my coworkers, and we play both Mega Millions and Powerball - we would find it most helpful. Thanks,

Win the 3 & 4 digit
rjoh i doubt anyone has ever mastered any game so that they keep winning i won 16.5k in 1995 with 3 hits in 2 months in the daily game followed by 5 years of loosing straight in it. finally i gave up playing anything exept jackpot games with large jackpots since i figure if i hit again i want to retire and a pick 3 or 4 game isnt going to do that. that and continually playing games can really add up over time fast. just playing for larger jackpots has been a good way to limit my losses.

Large PB jackpots help sales of Hot Lotto
Anyone go through the number of (gamewide) winners for Hot Lotto, and notice a spike in the # of winners approaching Christmas 2002, and around July 4 this year, even though (on-line) lottery sales historically decrease around major holidays, and during the summer? It seems that when PB goes well over $100 million ($315m Xmas 2002 and over $260m last month), the six-state Hot Lotto game pulls in more players, since of course Hot Lotto is a MUSL game, and they are already playing PB via the sam

Do lottery systems really work?
In order for the states to make money and create large jackpots to attract players, lotteries have to have lots of losers. No system is going to change that fact, but with mult-million dollars jackpots, a system only have to win a jackpot once to be a winner.RJOh

Vermont Joins Powerball
The selling point when NY joined MM was the fact that with the cahnge from the Big Game format to the MM format was the jackpots would be huge and the payouts would be better than Powerball. Thus far the PB jackpots have grown higher faster and under their new format the lesser prizes are bigger if you spend the extra buck. I'm betting that even the States with larger populations go to PB.

100m and above when?
As Powerball and Big Game/Megamillions enter more states the number of people playing grows so more combinations are played ergo the jackpots are hit more often. Powerball will probably reach it before Megamillions again since their jackpots grow faster.

OHIO Lotto 6/49 Wed 4/23 $29m
What ever Ohio decide to do, the payout will be less for every dollar taken in. When Ohio lottery first started, it had better odds, better payout and larger jackpots. Each improvement has meant worst odds, smaller prize amounts and smaller jackpots. There is no reason to think that this trend will change. Each year that the state dosn't show an increase in profit is reported as a lost.RJOh

$500 million jackpot...when?
To get jackpots of $500,000,000 you would need to have odds of 1 in about 200,000,000. That would make the game have longer jackpot rolls which would mean bigger jackpots. What do you guys think?Brad

WINFALL in trouble?
WinFall is just getting back to reality. How long did you really think a lottery could pay ~$50 on a bet with odds of 1:53 and make money? The extra money from the old game is gone and now the new game has to stand on its own. I hope it is succesful, because it will change the concept of the state lottery games from having big jackpots to attract players to having better payouts at the lower prize level to attract players and leave the big jackpots to the multistate games.RJOh
