I think that the financial adviser can call the Lottery Office and follow the procedures to identify the ticket as the winner. It will not be verified. We're not talking about the fact that the annuity and cash values are different. Of course they're different. We're also not talking about the fact that Lottery Post does not show the cash value of jackpots. Lottery Post never has shown that value for any lottery jackpot, so I'm not sure why you're trying to make it into an issue. We are talking about the fact that the Mega Millions website does not show the full accuracy (the decimal place) on the cash value, the way that USA Mega does (

The estimate doesn't sound so wrong if you frame it as being off by about 4 percent. How about when the estimate is off by a bit more than 10%? The previous jackpot was $1 billion, and they advertised an increase of $600 million and only got $537 million. That's their actual error. The fact that they can never be absolutely sure what the final jackpot will be is completely irrelevant.
