Posted from the NC lottery FAQ: Q: If I should win a large top prize, do I have the option of remaining anonymous with regard to the media and the public?: The NCEL will consider a winner s name, city/county, and the prize amount a matter of public record, unless the winner produces a valid protective order or Address Confidentiality Program authorization card. Virginia man claims $200M Mega Millions lottery jackpot
For anyone who is in California, after a Google search I finally found this information at their calottery website regarding anonymous claims of lotto jackpots: Can I be anonymous when I win? California state law requires that the California State Lottery to release the following information: your name, and the name and location of the retailer where you bought your ticket. You may request no media coverage aside from that. I was hoping winners could use a blind trust, however th

Please Write To Your Governor
It's true, the winner may have gone public anyway, but he wasn't given the choice. I live in an anonymous state. I would guesstimate from the research I have done, that about 3/4 of the winners here, or more, go public, despite the option we have. Many people don't care, so it doesn't affect it at all, from my observation. They are all still playing, and still winning. For those of us that want to be unknown , we should all have the option. So, I'm not saying it should all be anonymous, the o

Police: Fla. Lotto winner buried under concrete
[T]hey discovered the remains buried five feet below the surface ... Likely 'persons'. I imagine the amount of work required to move that volume of soil -- twice -- is no small task. While lottery winners cannot remain anonymous, there's this -- The executioner: Is a private citizen who is paid $150 per execution. State law allows for his or her identity to remain anonymous. This Change is Bad
Sticky wicket, joker....... If you call in sick because of this, you'll be thought to have won a jackpot. Then you'd be in the unique bind of not only not being anonymous but not being anonymous and not having won a jackpot!

Should Lottery Commissions Be Obligated To Maintain Your Anonymity?
rdgrnr, This is a tough one indeed. I voted let everyone remain anonymous, I was going to vote whatever the winner wants, but I think the lotteries would be doing everyone a favor if they automatically were anonymous. On the one hand, the lotteries want the publicity and they know that if all the public ever saw was Powerball won in Wisconsin (or wherever) people would get suspicious. Sure, the lottery is locking the money up man and publicizing non-existent jackpot winners. On the oth

Bronx mystery winner claimed half of $333M lottery jackpot
Congratulations to the winner. I would have claimed winning just as he or she did. it called freedom of choice. For those who want to do the publicity, that should be your choice, and equally for those of us who would want to remain anonymous, that's our choice. We have just as much right to play the game as anyone! Someone implied that winners can go public because that's why we have Guns and Bodyguards. Those of us who wish to remain anonymous choose not to have our lives disrupted to t

Identity Withheld Identity Revealed
I'm fortunate enough to live close to a state that allows anonymity (thats where I buy my tickets). I just simply wouldn't play if I couldn't remain anonymous. Part of my lottery dream is having the freedom to live my life how I want to live it. I'm a recluse and have no desire for attention. Part of my dream would be shattered if my identity was revealed after winning. In other words, don't play if you can't play by the rules. If you don't like the rules then maybe you should encourage your

If you claim Big Win Anonymously Do you sign ticket or not...
Even in the states that do allow winners to remain anonymous, they still publish name of the store where the ticket was sold and the location. And the name of the winner becomes public record after the ticket is validated so even there it's not fully anonymous. While everything you've suggested it sound advice, I wouldn't wait too long to validate the ticket because after a few weeks the store owner might believe the player didn't know they had the winning ticket and might start checking surveil

How much an attorney charge to claim lottery prize $25 Mil?
What do you mean by claim ? I'm assuming you're thinking about more than just strolling in to lottery HQ to hand over some paperwork and collect a check. For some services I expect some would want a percentage, or at least a fee that was somehow related to the size of the jackpot. About 10 years ago a group won a PB jackpot of almost 300 million, and hired an attorney to handle things for them. He was able to keep them anonymous, but his name got publicized in connection with the win. Many of
