I think they are counting on people forgetting to cash the low value tickets - no big rush. Guess I'm in the minority - I don't see the need in a mega-huge jackpot for one person. I'd be much more likely to play with lots of peeps winning realistic amounts: $100, $500, $1000, $10,000, $20,000, etc. But if that happened, people wouldn't be losing the ticket or forgetting to catch it in. I think there are a couple of reasons. Seems to me that there's not much point in spending the money to buy tickets when the MM jackpot is that low because a lot of state jackpots and scratch offs can be had at that amount but with much greater odds. I don't think that most people would consider a $15 million jackpot chump change (even with a take home value of about a third of that). Huge mistake indeed! Sales are already lousy. Making the odds worse will reduce sales even further. Most recent PB jackpot, despite being widely advertised as $100 million, only increased by the minimum 10 million. Wasn't all that long ago when $100 million would generate a decent bump. A friend is goint to be in the states in September/October and can bring me back some advance play. What would you opt for? 28 draws Powerball or 28 draws Megamillions? Regardless of the game as a system player there's very little difference in the amount of time spent picking combinations. When the wins are most likely to be the lowest ones, the best option seems to be the games with the higher jackpots and the better overall odds of winning something since I only play a couple of times weekly.
