Texas Lottery Approves Mega Millions Changes
Quote: Originally posted by dvdiva on March 15, 2005I doubt WA state will even have a public discussion on what changes are to be made. Too bad its only 1:175 million, might not be enough of a change considering the number of new players. With Texas deciding things I have a feeling that it's already decided unless New York or California decides differently. That extra 40 million combinations should be enough to increase the average jackpot size. Even without the changes, Mega Millions seems to

To INCREASE sales REDUCE the PB Matrix
Jag,Why the need to reduce the starting jackpot? My contention is that by making the changes I proposed that more players will play and that those that play now will spend more. Why isn't the Powerball Commission publishing data that shows they are losing money? I believe the reason is that they are not losing money and will not under my suggested changes. If I'm wrong, show me the money WON, and show me the money LOST.I fear that the greed mentality that plagues our culture equally plagues

Highs and Lows on the Lotto
GoArmy,I think most everyone who bets on a regular basis goes through hot and cold streaks. When I'm on a winning high, I just keep picking my numbers the same way and sometimes I'll start betting a little more. When I'm on a losing low, I usually will stick with my methods if the losing streak doesn't go on for too long. If the streak does continue for a very long time, I'll start trying new methods or old methods that have worked well in the past. I usually keep betting at the same level when

More Powerball States.
Quote: Originally posted by Denali on February 17, 2005 Powerball has more than half the states but nowhere near half the country . PB has 27 states, Wash DC, PR and USVI but merely 31% of the US population. MM has only 12 states--now with Ca--but 53% of the population. ( 95.5 m vs 155 m) Another state or two won't make any difference. I'm with the others who want PB to increase the lesser prizes. Also with those favoring the abandonment of annuitized amounts--- and tax free!Powerball is in

Powerball up only 2 million
Quote: Originally posted by ineed9million on February 17, 2005I haven't been playing the lottery very long, but regardless...I can't believe that the jackpot is only increasing from 10 to 12 million. 2 million??? Why is this increase so small? Is it always always this small when the jackpot is starting off at 10 million?ineed9million:V V (Yes) (pronounced yee yee)... It always starts off with a small $ amount. Go figure. Everyone is waiting for the POT to build before they go spend $ and pl

CALIFORNIA JOINS MEGA MILLIONS
I dont think we can continue at the same matrix. It all depends on the number of people in California that acutally do play. I mean for having so many people and so few dollars in lotter ticket sales California might not be a threat just like Texas pretty much wasn't. But if Mega Millions is a hit in California we need to switch the matrices. I mean there are too many more people than combos now. We need to find a way to increase odds to a point where people will play but it will be still h

Mega Millions lottery jackpots will get bigger, quicker
The odds of record-setting jackpots in the Mega Millions lottery will improve tremendously after California joins the multistate game later this year. There have been three jackpots of more than $300 million in the United States -- two for Mega Millions, one for Powerball -- and Everett says a $400 million jackpot certainly is possible for Mega Millions with California on board. The probability of getting a high jackpot doesn't increase after a new state joins. Let's say the lottery only sells $

California to decide multi-state lottery question today
Cash-hungry California may soon team up with either Powerball or Mega Millions, the popular multistate lotteries that entice players with head-reeling jackpots.State lottery commissioners are poised today to decide whether to join one of the long-odds, big-payday games for the first time in the 20-year history of California's lottery.Barring legislative or court challenges, Californians could be competing with gamblers from across the country for supersized jackpots by June.At the same time, how

California Lottery to consider multi-state game
If California does join a game it will be Mega Millions. I mean Pennsylvania was a big state to join Powerball and a state with over 30 million...wow. Whatever game they do decide....even though I know it will be MM expect a matrix change. Probably a ticket price change to $2 and starting jackpots at least $20,000,000. They would not have to increase the matrix that much. I say they would make it 5/60 X 60. I believe that would make the odds 1 in 500 million which should be about right. I

Powerball/Mega Milions Jackpots
What on earth would the average lottery player even do with 300 million dollars or more? My guess would be that they'd just get themself into a world of problems. Personally, I could do very well on a lot less than even ten million dollars. If the purpose of games like PB and MM is to have super-sized jackpots, then it's a bit like a dog chasing its own tail. The purpose of the larger jackpots is to draw more players to the game, and having more players means that the jackpot will be hit more oft
