When Do the Powerball Odds Tip?
MM had three drawings when the amount of tickets sales exceeded the number of combos so all three could be considered must win jackpots. But on one of those drawings, March 27, 2012 when 191 million tickets were sold, nobody won the jackpot. The next drawing on March 30, a record 652 tickets were sold and there were three winning tickets. When the jackpot becomes a must win , the odds of winning changes from the odds of one ticket to the number of chances to the odds of one ticket to the tota

MM jackpot $47M/$36.1M and PB jackpot $50M/$33.3
Actually, the income is affected by the fact that the prize allocation is not being covered by 32% of sales. The effect of the guaranteed starting jackpot carries too far into the rollover series. They did not sell enough tickets to cover $39.9 million cash using only the 32%. The actual cash value covered was around $25.6 million. They need to come up with the $14.3 million out of sales. What they are counting on is a super huge (record or near record) jackpot. If they continue to have ba

The lottery fantasy: How much money do you need to say 'buzz off, world'?
No one has taken into consideration the very real and likely possibility that the Federal Reserve has inflated the currency over the last 3 years to the point where, in the near future, the dollar will be worth about a quarter of what it is now valued. So, just to cover my a$$, if I now think 10 million will be enough for me to tell the world to take a hike, then I'd have to say it is 40 million instead. Something else I'd have to consider is the very real possibility that, as the economy ge

$32 million Mega Millions ticket claimed in LA area
Quite a few states don't tax lottery winnings because they already got their cut of the pie since the predominant amount of lottery revenue goes to the state's education fund, with administrative costs and winning payouts accounting for the rest. Mind you, just because they already took a slice of pie hasn't always stopped states (or the federal government) from taking some more. But at least a lot of states do recognize that since they take in the lion's share of lottery money right off the

I've noticed the best EV you can get will come from a high jackpot relative to odds, but a much larger jackpot elsewhere (Mega Millions/Powerball. I'd think more on the MM side.) More people spend their money on the big games, for a chance to win 100s of millions, and so the EV goes up. Go mostly by Jackpot size, but ticket sales has a dramatic affect on EV. That's why the record breaking mega millions draw only had an EV of about 67 cents on the dollar. Growing jackpots can be offset by

How many people are not sure how much they spend on the lottery?
Hi maximumfun, Wish I was more like you and had a Type A personality. It sounds like you are very conservative in your playing and that's a good thing. It sounds like you stay away from playing scratchers and focus on the MM PB games. 2 dollars per draw still keeps you in the game. It's only been recently when the jackpots have gotten very high that I have bought more than one ticket per game, still tend to play one draw mostly.

1 year of playing Quick Picks (should we quit)
It's taken some people (group or not) at least 20 years to win the jackpot. For others it has taken just one draw. Spending $25,000 a year still doesn't give you a good chance at winning. Even $25,000 in one draw doesn't help much, look at the celebs and diehard groups who spent that much in one draw when we got to the top paying jackpots. Also if looking at the lottery as an investment, I'd suggest don't. It's not. It's a game with completely random drawn numbers and insanely terrible odd

Lottery analysis software recommendations (free or paid)
Hello all. During my time of research (yeah, I'm a research nut), I've been thinking of getting some software to help me analyze the trends and what have you to pick lotto numbers. Yes, I know no software on Planet Earth is going to spit out numbers and have you win jackpots each and every time (and even smaller prizes for that matter), but I'm just wondering what software would you guys recommend, free or paid, to aid me in the analytics? I've seen some recommendations when searching, but th

Buying More Than 1 Lottery Ticket Does Not Make Economic Sense Regardless Of The Jackpot Amount.
If you don't like the QPs you're getting, use the QP generator on this site and fill out a playslip. but most players have won the big jackpots with Quick Picks. If 80% of the people wear a blue shirt today, there is an 80% chance the person having a birthday will be wearing a blue shirt. The same logic and math is applied to QPs, but it looks like you don't even know how PB is played. They are going to draw 5 numbers from 1 to 59 and a bonus number from 1 to 35 and the object of the gam

Would you share your winning lottery system if you had one ?
I'm with you on the frequency part. The Florida Cash 3 and Play 4, both at twice a day, are too much for me to try to keep track of. I've decided to focus on Fantasy 5 because the odds are much better than the Florida Lotto, and while I'm trying to come up with a system that works, the odds of some small money prizes along the way are a lot better. The drawback is that F5 is a once daily lottery. Optimally I'd like to find some numbers to plug into a 10-20 line wheel a couple of times a week. If
