Man sues California Lottery for not honoring winning $5M Scratcher ticket
PA they are still state liquor stores, beer is just starting to make its way into grocery stores. Beer was only sold at distributors. The article called it a liquor store not a convenience store.

Man sues California Lottery for not honoring winning $5M Scratcher ticket
From what we can glean from the article, the father is using language that his son did buy them but that the store erred in selling to him. Again, without seeing the entire complaint there is no way to know if he is also claiming under alternative legal theories. But, as someone already noted, if the lottery failed in their duty, they should not be rewarded, i.e., doctrine of unclean hands.

Flashback: Winners are drawn in New York state's first lottery in 1967
Thank you Todd for posting another feel good article from a long ago era. Lotteries sure have come a LONG way in fifty years. Back then those prizes were big money to the winners and nice that so many were able to win something even if it was just $150.

N.Y. man's lottery fortune hurts home town state aid
Had to read the article twice in disbelief. So one man's fortune and punish the whole town? Maybe New York could do what Massachusetts does and split it amongst all the towns and cities there. One town not too far from where I grew up doesn't have a lottery terminal so of course folks cried fowl on that one.

One million dollars in a time of need for New Jersey couple
Read the article. They were in hard times. Their daughter died and they had to raise 3 grandkids. Sometimes life throws a curveball and there's no correct way to avoid it. They dealt with circumstances the best they could, and it's a nice story about how something good happened to them.

New York seizes $20 million in lottery prizes from people on public assistance
I didn't get to read all of it. However it was mentioned they want to hit big. They want to spend money everyday yet they complain about other things. That's not good. I recall someone in Michigan who was on welfare kept it even after winning then finally was kicked off because the state obviously knew about it. The article might be archived in this site somewhere.
