Weak Powerball Sales?
As an Accountant, I say ticket sales are down, revenue and profits are up. Units do matter, because when you explain your year over year variances to management, units become part of the equation, otherwise how would you explain a 100% price increase with only a 50% revenue increase? What happens if number of ticket sales drop to less than 50% of previous levels, say even 50%? 1,000,000 tickets sold at $1 vs 500,000 tickets sold at $2 becomes a net $0 growth in revenue with a 100% price increase

When Mega Millions Goes To $2/Ticket
Speculation is that Mega Millions will be bumping up the cost of their tickets to follow the lead of Powerball to $2/ticket. Timing is not known exactly, expect by May of this year at latest. Will this effect your playing strategies, if at all, now that the playing field will be leveled between Powerball and Mega Millions? Do you think that with this increase in ticket prices, that Mega Millions will have an advantage over Powerball jackpots? If you have always played

Idaho's biggest lottery winner knew he would win
I had a dress rehearsal when I scored $200K in August 07 when my Powerball numbers came up 5+0. There was a Ohio Lottery Buckeye 5 player that must have absolutely believed that he was going to win the jackpot because he had 54 winning tickets. He didn't know the lottery had a $1 million aggregate payout limit and thought he won $5.4 million. In PB the jackpot amount is the limit and the jackpot is split by the number of winning tickets if there are multiple winners. It is logical to conclu

'Ordinary' Louisiana couple claims $1M Powerball prize
I am glad you understood the question I was trying to get a logical response to. I am going by 2 observations. 1.) People are holding on unto their $2 until, the kackpot gets significantly high, I am guilty of that....lol. Unfortunately, if people are doing so, thereby shrinking the increase of jackpot rollover with fewer tickets being sold. 2.) The lottery commission decided the take the increase of jackpot prizes very steeply. Thus, their slogan of bigger jackpots, fails to meet their

'Ordinary' Louisiana couple claims $1M Powerball prize
Congratulations to them, oh what a conspiracy, an ordinary couple, winning the second tier prize. Lol, no, truly it must have been a really ecstatic win. Lol on the poster stating the 50/50 share, I'll keep mine while you keep yours. Tonight's powerball, I hope it does not hit. I want to see whether we are going to have a rollover of close to or more than $80 million. In every true sense, this is the real beginning of bigger jackpots for the $2 prize. I hope I am making sense, lol.

I just dont understand!?!?!
Powerball and Mega Millions both have two drawings a week, we'll call it 104 drawings a year. Oh those 104 drawings, 12 to 15 of them a year, for each game, produce jackpot winners. 15 of 104 is 14.42%. Since only 14.42% of drawings pay a jackpot, why would anyone want to narrow that down so much more by waiting for jackpots of $100M or more? Sounds like people getting in their own way.

New York Instant Scratch Off's fixed?
The lottery is as random asa they can make it, including where winning tickets go. Randomly distributing tickets doesn't mean that they're distributed uniformly. If 5 million tickets go to Long Island and 5 million go to Manhattan it doesn't mean that both areas will have the same number of jackpot winners. Random probability will result in a fairly uniform distrirbution of small prizes because there are lots of small prizes. The very small number of jackpots means that selling just one or two i

Lottery jackpots may get bigger
That was exactly my point though. By no means do I think it's rigged and by one of the smallest contributing states having won one of the biggest jackpots is only further proof. Not sure why people took exception to what I said when I was just trying to point out that it's as random as it gets. If people are unhappy with the results unless they win then their goign to live a life of being unhappy as they could live a hundred lifetimes and never sniff a prize above a free ticket for hitting the P

$336 million Powerball ticket sold at R.I. supermarket
This website is surely attracting the craziest of the crazy. Now someone is claiming that there's a conspiracy to let white Americans to win jackpots. Dude needs his head examined. USA is more than 60% white so its obvious that white Americans will win the lottery more often if other things are held constant. Ugh maybe Todd needs to have an aptitude test for all potential members and if you're too dense then you can't get in. I enjoy the struggle between the Liberals and Conservatives

Do you think some people are more lucky than others when it comes to winning?
Stack47, It's all luck.....I was reluctant to mention the stats on the QP because there's a lot of resentment here about QPs (ut oh) but you're right, right place, right time. Approximately 104 drawings a year for PB and MM, and 12 to 15 jackpots hit, 70 to 80% of those, QPs. Yup, luck. Not to mention people who hit a jackpot the first time they ever play. Then how about the prison guard in NY who thought she bought a ticket for one game when it was for the other one and she hit a jackp
