Amnightus asks, How many Mathematicians Play the Lottery
That must be this one.

It's interesting how so many articles on this like to talk about how huge the odds are that someone would win 4 jackpots. The total odds they quote are those you get when you multiply the 4 individual odds together. I don't think she was predicting those hits in advance.
It's also noteworthy that 3 of 4 of her wins were Scratchers...
It's doubtf

Amnightus asks, How many Mathematicians Play the Lottery

You first, I know that doctors, lawyers, teachers, engineers, have all won jackpots in the past so I would
say that within the population of members here at LP that the results would be very much the same as they
would be within the general population. Any statistician worthy of their trade should be able to calculate
this without much error.

Lucky Stores?
Any stores that beat the odds against the number of winning tickets likely to be sold by any given store would naturally be considered lucky.
That's just a word we use to define that kind of thing.
Those stores in Fond Du Lac Wisconsin are called lucky for that reason. They've sold more jackpots then should be expected in that one area.
So can you expect to be more likely to win a jackpot by buying tickets in one of those stores?
Yes - if you're lucky.

NY Scratch-off Discussion
I bought that next one cause I had the same thing happen to me a few weeks ago, won $35 then $100 and oddly enough $30 after that....I was up a few bucks so I decided why not? Mad lucky though, no question haha
yeah maybe there were 4 jackpots-surprised the winner wasn't on the website yet though, maybe next update
sorry to hear about the losses, it seems like you lose a lot by getting greedy lol....that may be me though, hopefully I don't get like 50-60% on this roll it would really suck

What is a lottery system? What distinguishes a lottery system from guesses, dreams and quick picks?
garyo1954: I hadn't noticed we have membership numbers nor that the numbers and dates of becoming members reflect anything. An obliquely unsettling piece of information considering the types of posts made and the durations of memberships of those making them.
I like your suggestion about a QP forum.. Those RNG machines at the outlet stores are each a microcosm of a lottery. Quickpickers could exchange all kinds of suggestions about where and when the best quickpicks could be purchased.

A Lottery Curse
Hey, it's not my stats, as I mentioned, TLC show claimed it.
But seems perfectly reasonable to me, if you look deeper at the claim:
OK, so the number of Mega and PB jackpots are nowhere near 1600. But did you factor in all the group wins? How many splits? Then add all the state lotteries in a similar fashion. Then add all the state Scratchers or any other games where someone could win at least $1,000,000. And I assume this is a before taxes amounts which seems to be the norm.
Very easy

DID Mega Millions roll over ?
I've always been interested in this mysterious Mega Millions Consortium. As I understand it, MUSL was set up to help small states that didn't individually have the resources to easily run a lottery. And Powerball was set up for states that are too small to support big jackpots. MUSL offers services for free, and earns income from interest on the jackpot pool while that money is sitting in the bank waiting to be won.
Mega Millions is the opposite, set up by big states that have resources t

Lucky Stores?
OK, so I'm watching the morning news, and like they do everytime the Mega Millions jackpot gets huge ( $300,000,000) they send a TV crew down to some Lucky Store to do stories of how people come from miles around to stand in line and buy a ticket there.
Some self-claimed Lucky Stores like to post their multitudes of winning tickets and jackpots to feed the frenzy. I say they have more wins because they have more sales! In fact, I might avoid that store, if not only because of the long lines.

$312 MILLION: Mega Millions lottery jackpot raised again
In Michigan, your name and city of residence are considered public record for Mega Millions/Powerball jackpots. Funnily enough, 5+0 winners (Megaplier/PP or not) aren't. You may elect anonymity for any prize over $10,000 in Michigan for everything EXCEPT a MM/PB jackpot.
You are also required to call Lottery PR for any prize over $50,000 so they can pre-validate your ticket and schedule an appointment to claim your prize. It also says You may show up in person, but doing so may cause delay
