'Mirage' jackpots
From Yahoo Finance re: $450M PB jackpot:
But the huge jackpots like this week's $450 million prize are actually a mirage. To get that much, winners have to take payments over 30 years. However, winners rarely choose to do that. Instead, they take a smaller lump sum payment worth about one-third less than the advertised jackpot.
Most every one here at LP knows this but I just found the wording interesting.

Worldwide Jackpots page
I like to check the worldwide jackpots page most days. I notice there is an entry for a German lottery that has not changed since November of last year.
Todd, you may want to look into it.
Thanks.

Powerball is kicking it up-10 millionaires were made tonight!!.
Many participating lottery jurisdictions will respond by focusing their marketing elsewhere - Powerball and Mega Millions being relegated to being niche games, occasionally getting mainstream play only when the jackpots get huge.
You seem to assume states and MUSL are competing against each others. States add PB and MM to attract players to their local games and they can do that best by maintaining large jackpots longer that are harder to win. Having a second prize of $1M-$10M is enough to ke

I think both multi-state games are interested in pushing the envelope
I'm pretty sure the only thing they're interested in is maximizing their profit, and they figured out along time go that really big jackpots sell a hell of a lot of tickets. They have to know that raising the odds that high is going to reduce the number of tickets they sell for modest jackpots, but they're hoping to make up for it with the unusually big jackpots.
Considering that the current version is the one they dia

Multi-state lottery jackpots are growing at a smaller pace
It should be incredibly obvious that the big jumps have always been caused by people buying more tickets than they do when jackpots are small. It should be almost as obvious that some regular players buy more tickets than they usually do, and some people who aren't regular players start buying tickets at some point. When a $200 million jackpot was unusually big people took the chance when it became available.
People still follow the same behavior when jackpots are unusually big, but that does

Multi-state lottery jackpots are growing at a smaller pace
It does seem jackpots are growing slower. If so, it's because fewer are playing. Adding more states, such as California, and allowing cross-selling of Powerball and Mega Millions have helped keep the jackpot games going, but it's getting ever more challenging to keep sales up...
Many players, me included, aren't overly excited playing jackpot games with even worse, astronomical odds that cost more to play than in the past. The thrill and excitement have long worn off for most who play. There

Playing The Lottery Less Often Is The Best Strategy To Win A Lottery Jackpot Someday.
There are pick-3 wheels guaranteed to match 2 digits when all three digits are different that only uses eight lines and players can expect a 2 digit match in at least 72% of the drawings. The lotteries borrowed a game that was mathematically designed to give players lots of 2 digit matches so they would keep on playing. By offering the box bet, some players believed they were 1 off on straight bets when the last digit misses.
Games like MM and PB offer huge jackpots to keep them playing and f

Record jackpots !!
Who is voting with me to have the next Power Ball and Mega Millions record breaking jackpots on
a Friday and a Saturday? The majority of players do not have to work the following day. We can stay up late
and watch the returns come in. Just like a National election here in the USA.

Seeing sales slowing, Missouri Lottery officials seek new customers
Gonder also blamed a lack of major jackpots for some draw games
Not the first lottery official I've heard blame the jackpots.....makes me wonder what they would do if the game got shut down. Run around like chickens with their heads cut off? If I'm running a business the last thing I want is being too dependent on one product but that's what's happened in several states; got comfy with record sales from record jackpots and now that things are slow they're crying and getting worried. Maybe t

lotto MAX
All jackpots are shown in US Dollars on Lottery Post. For non-US games (like Lotto Max), the native jackpot amount is also shown. Hopefully you can see the jackpot shown in Canadian Dollars right beside the US Dollars amount.
By displaying the US Dollar amount for all jackpots, you can easily compare jackpots from different countries. Also, Lottery Post keeps a record of the historical currency conversion rates, so when you are viewing past jackpot amounts, the US Dollar amount shown is the
