$550 MILLION: Mega Millions holiday bonanza!
The whole point of Mega Millions and Powerball is to create big jackpots. If you want to play for smaller jackpots, nearly every state has other in-state games offering smaller jackpots.
If I win an $800 million jackpot, I think I'll somehow manage it. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it.
BTW, it was lucky that nobody won the jackpot Friday, because with nine 5+0 winners, the odds were better that someone would hit.

$205 MILLION: Promise of big jackpots met by new Mega Millions
It will produce mega jackpots. The enormous challenge is the 5 main numbers. I was curious, so I did a little number crunching. The old 5/56 game, five winning numbers represented 8% of the number pool. Compare that with a state lottery 5/39 game that would be 12% Now the new main 75 number pool represents 6.6% I think this is what the Mega Million Lottery foks figured out. They knew that Powerball was beating them due to their bigger jackpots due mainly to their two dollar ticket prices. Few ti

MM going to 30 year annuity
The annuity option really doesn't make sense anymore for the multi-state Jackpot games. It's just a marketing gimmick now.
It might have made sense in the old days, when jackpots were small like a couple million, as a way to boost them higher.(similar to a state lotto) But with a several hundred million jackpots now being more common for MM/PB, it's antiquated. Especially with those large jackpots, your annual payment comes in well above the top tax bracket, so there's not even any benefit th

One ticket wins $400 million Powerball jackpot
I NEVER said CA won Powerball, I'm aware that they haven't won PB yet. I'm talking in general with big lotteries, these states are the main ones that are always winning.
And I do play before these jackpots get big, but I'm going to start to cut back because I've looked at this years pile of tickets and I've probably spent around $1400+ worth of tickets so far and won less than $200 in return. It's only smart to play when the jackpot is HIGH to reduce shelling out $$ ur'll end up losing anyway

Mega Millions lottery game's redesign aims at bigger jackpots, better overall odds
Inspite of the higher odds I don't expect many jackpots of a billion dollars or more. With its $1 price for one line the new matrix will attract players who would pay $1 for a chance in a pick5 game with a jackpot of $100K and players who don't want to pay $2 for a chance to win a multi-million dollars jackpot which should help it exceed the sales amounts of PB.
If there are many billion dollars plus jackpots, look for MM to do what PB did when it thought a half billion dollar jackpot was lar

Mega Millions multi-state lottery to get harder to win in Oct.
Explain to me how this will bring more money? The reason PB worked was even with lower ticket sales (which there was, in fact, a drop in # of tickets sold for each equivalent jackpot level vs. the old game), they still made more sales/revenue because the ticket price doubled. This does none of that. Jackpots will grow slower, thereby doing what MM has been doing all year until reaching $190 million (which isn't that high in relative terms) recently - that is being won continually at lower jackpo

Do some number combinations have better odds?
I agree with Jimmy, the people on this site are profoundly ignorant.
It's a site that discusses lottery games and lottery related topics and while many of the threads are redundant, it doesn't mean most of the posters are ignorant. Maybe it is out of ignorance of the amount of play on the $400 million plus MM and PB jackpots that some members believe there will be $1 billion jackpots using the same matrix, but because there is a tiny possibility not all combos will be sold, there is a tiny

$425 MILLION: Largest Powerball lottery jackpot in history
Well my curiosity got the best of me and I had to do a little research on USA Mega. For 2012, there were 10 PB jackpots won. Iowa had 2, and Rhode Island had 2, NY had 1. For 2012, MM had 11 jackpots won. California had 5, NY had 3, and Illinois had 2.
As another poster pointed out, the states with the highest populations usually have the best odds of winning a jackpot. Simple. California actually is the state to hate. If CA had PB they probably would have a couple of those jackpots also.

PB is at 100m - So what!
I guess I am just a little bitter about the change. If MUSL really wanted to see the jackpots grow, they would have left the starting jackpot price the same, taken the extra balls out, and increased price by a quarter.
New York got the PB very late in the game, we always had MM, so for PB to come into our state, and then try to flex some muscles with the price change then they are f**king out of there mind. I see it as a very callous and arrogant move, that is now making jackpots roll at a sn

Considering the discussions about where jackpots are won...
These are the number of players who won anything in PB last night, state by state.
Does anybody think that just maybe, the more tickets played the more winners and the more tickets played just perhaps the more jackpots?
