Calif. lottery winners try to remain as anonymous as possible
A man and wife from Thousand Oaks, California, are overnight millionaires after the SuperLotto Plus ticket they purchased last week matched all six numbers in Saturday's draw. After the winning ticket went unclaimed for two days, California Lottery officials announced Monday they were looking for the winners. Mike and Lynda Weeks came forward Tuesday afternoon to claim their $30 million prize. The couple decided to take the cash option of $19.9 million. The Weeks' winning numbers: 35, 1

Poor man's "Blind Trust" or LLC.
This is an interesting discussion. Here in Louisiana, a few Powerball prizes have been claimed by LLCs. The only downside to that is members of the LLC are public record, since LLCs are registered with the state. Most states also have that data online so getting it is quite easy for those up to no good. We had a winner claim in the name of a trust a few years ago. She had her attorney go claim the money and handle the publicity on behalf of the trust. On the websites of both the Louisiana

$31 million lottery claimed by anonymous winner
And the winner of a $31 million California SuperLotto Plus prize is ... anonymous. The woman who found out Thursday that she had the winning California SuperLotto Plus ticket has claimed the prize. But she told lottery officials she doesn't want her name publicized. Hers is the fourth-largest single-ticket jackpot awarded in San Diego. A lottery spokeswoman quoted the winner as saying, in a statement released last night, I plan to help my family, do home improvements and maybe buy an R

Why the sudden concern with anonymity ?
It has not slowed down the sales in these states (KS, MD, ND, DE, SC, LA, NH, OH, OK, PA) In fact I will travel to one of these states just for the opportunity to stay anonymous. even though I would have to pay more taxes. I would rather have the opportunity to stay anonymous over the tax rate. BTW Why don't you give your real name in your posts? or is Gusser your real name? Hummmm Why are you concern about remaining anonymous

I am going to try to change the rules about annonymity...
Amsoly41, I agree to a point, but it is not the same thing. Most members probably would prefer to remain anonymous, but will accept the rules of their state lottery should they win a jackpot. That wasn't really the subject matter here. To join LP, Todd does not require that we reveal our personal information. So I don't think it is hypocritical at all to want to keep it that way. I would like to know a person's gender and state, and I like first names too, but that information is not requi

Contacting Professionals After You Hit A Multi-Million Dollar Prize!
amsoly41 This is from the Powerball website FAQ page: CAN I REMAIN ANONYMOUS WHEN I HIT THE JACKPOT? All but three states (DE, KS, ND) have laws that require the lottery to release the name and city of residence to anyone who asks. One state (SC) will keep your name secret if you request it, but if someone files a Freedom of Information Act request, you may have to file a plea with the judge to deny it. Photos and press conferences are always up to you. Most of the time, it is advisa

E! Television to air 'Curse of the Lottery' Sunday
From the original post we have, Susan Bradley on the best way to claim a winning lottery ticket One of the first things a lottery winner should do in a perfect world is not claim the ticket in their name. You can form a blind trust, and you can have the lottery winnings put into the trust. I just checked the FAQ page for the Virginia Lottery about anonymous claimants and found this: Can I remain anonymous when I claim my lottery winnings? No. Winners often ask if they c
