Killer said lottery cheated
Has Anyone Ever Read this story? I found it the other day while doing a search! I am not really sure of the Date it was published but I think it was published in March 1998 according to the URL.
Makes you wonder about those scratch tickets hey? Like how some people said when they won on a scratch ticket the clerk would say it was already cashed in! Hmmmmmmm!

Why an Annuity?
Thanks for the replies. I agree with the enticement answer. That was my going-in guess. I was just looking to see if there wasn't some other historical reason or explanation for why annuity jackpots are the default, promoted jackpot amounts. It seemed obvious to me that lottery promoters like the psychological enticement of the bigger number, similar to the way knocking off a penny from the price of something to make it in the next dollar value down is an illusion of savings. I was just hop

an inch from fantasy 5 jackpot in georgia
You are very close, Mike.
I play the Fantasy 5 in California when the jackpot gets to $300,000 or more. Too expensive to play it all the time. In the last few months I have won 4 of 5 twice and the payout each time was less than $400. BUMMER. Usually you can count on at least $400. Last night the payout for 4 of 5 was $544. That's more like it, but I wasn't playing!!
I play some other states when their jackpots get over $300K also, if I have family or friends that live there. But

S.C. may ban illegal aliens from claiming lottery prizes
The problem I have with this is the same I have with the RICO laws and other confiscation laws. It starts off as just illegal aliens but if the state manages to deny a big jackpot winner just once a year year, that's a tremendous winfall for the state and the temptation will be to see what other category of person they can deny winnings to to keep profits high. Ex-felons, the state doesn't even allow them to vote, why should they be allowed to win the lottery? Et cetera. The RICO laws started

Lucky store! So who's the Florida Lotto winner?
It's funny how a $41M win is creating such a fuss when PB jackpots have exceeded $300M, and if 2 people won $82 million in PB, it wouldn't be such big news. Not that I wouldn't want to win even a small part of that jackpot, but it really isn't $41M anyway.
If I won that they'd probably bury me from the shock, he said. I couldn't imagine what I'd do with $82 million.
Florida must be taking lessons from PB and all of the misleading advertising. There were 2 winners and the cash value

why play the pick 4?
When people stop at the store and buy 10 or 20 auto picks on the Mega Millions, do they really expect to win the jackpot? Or are they just hoping they can beat the odds like the people they see on TV holding that huge cardboard check?
The Mega Millions website says the overall chances of winning a prize are 1 in 40 so I guess we should feel lucky if we win 2 bucks on 20 auto picks.
The multi-state lotteries were created so huge jackpots could be generated to entice people that don't usuall

13 State Employees to Share $224 Million Powerball Lottery Jackpot
@Todd:
My appologies to you and all other Lottery Post members for my very poor choice of the the word we. That was a major gaff on my part as it clearly implied I was speaking for other people including the staff at Lottery Post...which I am not. I am speaking strictly for myself. I absolutely believe that there are other members here who share my point of view. (But perhaps not because no one else has joined in this opportunity to speak directly to one of the Powers that be. ) Regar

quick pick or your own numbers
I agree. For the purpose of this poll, I would think that the definition of a "quick pick" would include all of the examples you listed. Any non-analyzed, randomly generated combination that you play would be a "quick pick." So you're right - "quick picks," when lumped together, would greatly outnumber "selected" numbers.
However, if you're looking at sales data provided by a state lottery (e.g. the data from the Florida Lottery that I posted earlier in this thread) to try to determine

Mega Draw
Xmost,
Do you know if the bonus draws go till May 5th? I called the Ontario office and they reported that each bonus draw is being decided one at a time. Maybe BC has pre-announced the bonus draws. The BC toll free number does not work from here.
If there will be a $35 million bonus jackpot, I want to start a big, one-time group. We do not get big jackpots like that too often.
Our group won some money and free tickets from yesterday's Super 7 draw. We are in for the $25 million draw.

13 State Employees to Share $224 Million Powerball Lottery Jackpot
Very savvy..sounds like you got it together, Sassy.
Most pools are done at the spur of the moment when the jackpots are large, so having your ducks in a row is not the top priority.
I hope they don't encounter any difficulties, and judging by most of their ages, this is certainly a blessing for them at a good time in their lives.
Congrats to them !
