A math specialist would not be useful. As the lottery stated in other news stories, the ticket could have been purchased by two friends trying to play the same numbers. And why would the winner purchase the same exact ticket a fraction of a second or seconds later? It makes zero sense. Perhaps a second ticket printed out in error and someone later bought it.

According to the California Lottery website , The current processing time for error-free claims is 4 to 6 weeks. It also says Federal taxes will be deducted so the final payout will be at least 25% less, but interest clock on $33 million should start running the day after six weeks are up.
