What is up with MM/PB
What has been up with these games. These games have always produced big jackpots but now it seems like it doesn't roll more than a couple times. I can't remember the last time either game was at $100+ million, can you? I mean it has been months. I can't remember when the jackpots were won so many times at such small levels. I miss playing these games and getting into lottery mania when the jackpots get really high. What do you guys think? Brad

MM's low sales
I doubt the string of low jackpots could have anything to do with it. I'm only wondering when they can fix the game so it can generate the jackpots we were told we'd have when it came to this state. It was advertised that jackpots of $400 million was possible. When it was sold to CA that number was even higher. While Elvis getting out of a UFO on the White House lawn is a possiblity, I hope that's not the kind of odds they were looking at when they made the sales pitch.

Mega Draw
The reason the jackpot went up after a win is because it is a BONUS jackpot. Money not claimed after one year is placed in a bonus pool to be given out with promotions and bonus jackpots. My understanding is that US lotteries keep unclaimed money. This is why I love Canadian lotteries even though I do play US lotteries when the jackpots are large. This is the reason why, earlier in this thread, I asked if the next jackpot was going to be $35 million. I see now why some people did not under

Unclaimed Jackpots
Yesterday two (2) I repeat two (2) Jackpots worth around $850,000 one in Colrado and one in Kentucky went unclaimed. It took me back to the $30,000,000 unclaimed in 2003. How circumstances and carelessness rob people of great chances to alter their lives! Well, If i Win tonights jackpot, I assure everyone, I'll claim it within two weeks! smile

13 State Employees to Share $224 Million Powerball Lottery Jackpot
Last year lots of the jackpots that were hit were very small. You remember that phenomena? People were scratching their heads wondering if Powerball had finally hit the wall, because it seemed to get hit so often. As I described above, when the jackpots get really big, the number of pool players grows exponentionally. And the jackpots have been getting huge as of late. In fact, I ran a news story stating how this was the first back-to-back $200+ million jackpot. People play Powerball t

Why not a lottery that goes "wide"?
For those players who think winning $100M or more is ridiculous, there are the local lotteries with better odds and smaller jackpots. States use multi-state games with big jackpots to attract more players to all their games because it works. RJOh I've read that people who normally don't play and don't even know how it works will blow a few bucks on a huge jackpot, which makes no sense to me at all. I've also read that the much higher jackpots attract wealthier people who wouldn't nec

Probability of a MegaMillions rollover.
Here are the long term modelling results for probabilities of jackpots of various sizes derived from my curve fitting scheme. As I have discussed, I think, before, modeling gives better results in some areas than it does in others. It deviates widely in the first several drawing and it also deviates when the jackpots approach records. It is now operating in a region where it is very accurate though. This is satisfying to me.(I keep the model updated by inserting new sales figures for each

Mega Millions Out Shining Powerball
I agree with delS in that MM outweighs PB in some respectsuch as the sheer amount of paid jackpots since thebeginning of this year and as discussed elsewhere its higher cash value ratio. But, as Jack said, I see that MM and PB are nearly even whenthe two are compared in terms of jackpots, hit or rolled,SINCE the end of August when PB changed its matrix.
