New Florida Lotto playslips a bother to some
The $15 million, just like the money for every other lottery prize, comes from all of the tickets that have to be sold to get a winner. Any game with a minimum payout might lose money (or make less than anticipated) on any individual drawing, but probability guarantees that they will make almost exactly what they expect in the long run. The odds of winning the Florida game are are roughly 1 in 23 million, so they can expect to sell 23 million tickets for every ticket that wins the jackpot. Th

N.J. lottery midday draws held late, not televised
The New Jersey Lottery's computer system is back on-line, after being down for about 3½ hours this afternoon, officials said. The disruption in service, which shut down Lottery machines throughout the state and caused a delay in the drawing of the Satuday midday numbers, was blamed on high winds and heavy rains that hit the state today. Lottery machines went down about 12:30 p.m. Service was restored shortly before 4 p.m., said Dominick DeMarco, a spokesman for the Lottery Commissio

Who really need money?
Pardon me for getting back to a reply to the OP's statement. (Wow, did this thread ever go off on some tangents!) One might look at it this way, money might be more useful to young people but it is entirely possible that when old people win big jackpots there are actually more young people who benefit. It has been my observation that when older people win, they often make comments about sharing their winnings with their adult children and grandchildren. How often, by contrast, do we hear abou

Which gives me a better chance of winning a lottery?
KY Floyd You yourself just said that there are between 13 and 30 million tickets sold for a typical MM drawing. If this divide the odds by number of tickets played theory was valid, there would be a lot more winners than there ever actually are. By their own statistics, MM (and PB) have 12 to 15 jackpot winners a year, out of 104 drawings. According to these theories about 100 tickets rdeducing the odds 100 times, 1000 tickets a thousand times, etc., ad nauseam, we would see a lot

Using Gail Howard's Systems
I have used Gail Howards systems for years with much sucess. I should have won 3 jackpots and I forget how many 2nd and 3rd place prizes. its not her fault I didn't win...its mine. the reason GH's systems don't work for some, is that they are not willing to put the time into it. most people just go with the smartpicks. you have to remember when Gail wrote her systems she based her Master Lottery Guide on all kinds of games from pick 4's, to 5/32's to 6/49's and even 80+# keno games. eve

Attention GA scratch game players
FYI The $5 instant ticket, MLB Braves is done and being pulled from the shelves ( whatever remain unsold ). I have a Major ( no pun intended ) problem with the fact that as of 2/10/ 08 , ZERO $ 250,000 jackpots have been claimed out of four. This game has been in play for almost a year..... I can concede lost tickets and / or trashed tickets for one, maybe two, but not 4. Something smells fishy and it ain't the fish with little water left in the lakes... I have wrote the lottery expr

Lump Sum or payments?
I'm saying that the annuity payment that seemed like a veritable fortune some years ago is just a run of the mill house now. Think of it like that. Let's try it this way, say someone won a Reader's Digest sweepstakes or something and it was for $30,000 a year. Let''s say they won it in the 1970's when a new car was around $3,000 or less. At the time they won it, the $30,000 was a fortune....now it's a car. Just substitue lottey jackpot for RD sweepstakes, and house for car. A lo

What Changes Do You Expect With Lottery In 2008?
That was going to be my answer! LOL You beat me to it, Spy! I hope FL doesn't add any more games. I wouldn't mind if they dropped the MegaMoney, however, and substituted some kind of little lotto type game like a 6/39 or even a 6/42 game. There were more winners when Lotto was 6/49 (now 6/53) but not as many rollovers. I think they will continue to sell raffle tickets since they've been very successful and sold out again on Christmas July 4. I wonder if they'll have a $50 scrat

I think I woke up the neighbors LOL
RJOh - I was about to start a thread or poll about sharing. A win is a win, isn't it? Maybe I did post it. (my mind is going) I mean, some people think it's your one shot so it has to be huge, I guess. I hope I don't sound as if I am blaming anyone, because I could have bet anything I wanted and most of us change numbers from time to time. I chose not to play the winning combination on Monday because I didn't want to spend more money. However, while I was staring at several

Study ranks Missouri lottery as ninth best in U.S.
If my math serves me correctly, $360 million divided by 4 equals $90 million...so what difference does it make to play all the time vice just when it gets super huge? The Texas students believe it's necessary to put the game odds on back the ticket like at a race track where the odds of the horses and dogs are put on the tote board. I don't know why because the odds of winning are exactly the same whether the jackpot is $12 or $360 million. And what you're playing for is always an estimate
