NY Lotto - rollovers shrinking again
Lost in the Powerball hoopla is a bit of news that makes one wonder about the future of New York's Lotto game. Before NY joined the two big multi-state games, Lotto would often pay out some rather healthy jackpots, getting up into the tens of millions. The starting jackpot would alternate between $2M and $3M (I don't know if there was ever a rhyme or reason behind which one was chosen when) and it would roll over at least a couple million bucks at a time; the rollovers would obviously increase a

Powerball multi-state lottery to raise prices, jackpots
You say there were 8 individuals who won jackpots and 4 groups that won jackpots in 2011.
And from that you say you were overwhelmingly more likely to win a jackpot if you were in a group?
The number of people in the groups is irrelevant, we're talking about winning jackpots. Doesn't matter if there were thousands in the groups.
There were 12 jackpots won. Eight were won by individuals, four were won by groups.
That's a 2 to 1 advantage for individuals over groups where I

New games, FL and other states
We can only hope that Jackpots are not destroyed or removed from shelves and put back in warehouse status. However, at one location, I overheard the clerk and Lottery official, they were discussing which game to remove to make room and mentioned let's take the one that has the fewest on the roll
So there may not be any co-ordination as to leaving a Jackpot on the rack. Now since there are so few Jackpots it is possible that information is disseminated out pertaining to those 1 or 2 rolls at

First N.C. Mega Millions lottery winner claims jackpot
I am an avid lottery player and have a bit of a hobby collecting tickets from all over the US from my travels. I have bought tickets in Greensboro many times and am glad to see someone win, however I felt for winning such a difficult game this man should have gotten more out of it. I mean 12 million can only go so far in this bad economy especially if you take cash (you are taxed like hell). I am honestly wondering how they can get away with starting the jackpot at only 12 million when they've a

Weak bond market lowers lottery annuity jackpots
Situation serves as reminder of how jackpots are calculated
The nation's financial crisis is causing a dip in one of the optional jackpots offered in Wisconsin's Megabucks lottery game.
The lottery said Tuesday that the annuity option which has a jackpot paid in installments over 29 years will decline for the first time because of a weak bond market.
State lotteries fund their annuity options by using ticket revenue to buy conservative, government-backed bonds.
For the Wisconsin lott

Oklahoma Cash 5 lottery game on sale today
Texas, one of the larger states, has a Cash 5/37. Jackpots are based on sales for a particular drawing. If there is no winner, the jackpot amount is rolled down to lower prize levels. This usually boosts the 4/5 prize from $100-$200 range to $400-$600 range. The current jackpots are running between $30 and $40 thousand. Mostly in the 30s.
Players who have 2/5 win $2, which is a feature I like. Get enough of these and you can play your favorite numbers free for a couple days.
Texas started

$420 million of lottery jackpots in two days
No and yes. Sort of.
I specifically referred to PB's cap that was instituted about a year (?) ago. That cap is specifically imposed by the rules. When the annuity jackpot reaches the highest amount it has reached previously the rollovers are limited to an increase of 25 million. The current maximum is 340, so if nobody wins the next draw the most it will be for Saturday is 365. The next draw could be less than 365 if ticket sales aren't high enough. My guess is that the amount advertised if i

Texas Lottery Commission chair betting on future
When word spread in June that the Texas Lottery Commission approved jackpots it couldn't afford to make, chairman C. Tom Clowe Jr.'s term on the commission had officially expired months earlier. The retired Waco businessman who launched his career in trucking and has spent 51 years of marriage living in 34 different towns faced one last duty before fully returning to retirement: overseeing the troubled agency's bid to win back public trust.Beginning the eighth year of his now open-ended term, Clo

Texas Lottery critic turns down selection committee post
A lottery watchdog who helped expose inflated Texas Lotto jackpots and a math professor whose students found problems with lottery advertisements were among 10 people chosen to help find the next leader of the struggling Texas Lottery Commission, officials said Friday.Dawn Nettles, a frequent critic of the lottery, later withdrew from the search committee, saying her participation would be a conflict of interest.C. Michigan Lottery sales slip; commissioner blames blackout
The Michigan Lottery is on track to set an all-time sales record, despite a drop in sales last year, Lottery Commissioner Gary Peters said.Last year's sales fell by $7 million from 2002. Peters blamed the August blackout that cut off revenue from the Daily 3, Daily 4, Rolldown, Mega Millions and WinFall games that rely on electronic equipment. We figured the blackout alone cost us $7 million, Peters told The Detroit News for a Sunday story. We sell $5 million a day on the online games. So with
