Former lottery security employee guilty of rigging $14.3M drawing
Jurors convicted a former Iowa lottery security official of two counts of fraud Monday for rigging a Hot Lotto drawing to win $14.3 million.
The jury's verdict came after three days of witness testimony last week in the case against Eddie Tipton, 52, who faces up to 10 years in prison. It's believed to be the first prosecution of a person accused of tampering with lottery equipment to manipulate a draw.
Tipton stared straight ahead with his hands folded as the verdict was read, showing no

Minnesota Lottery to change policy after 6 major unclaimed prizes this year
noise,
Where on earth do you get the idea they would ever reveal someone's ss#?
The lottery commission would never reveal someone's ss#. That would open them up to legal liability if if was used for fraud.

Would you be willing to change your name in order to remain anonymous?
I wouldn't change my name. I would change my address.
I would go rent an apartment in another city within my state, get my driver's license changed, and create plausible deniability. I don't know that too many people would realize I was living someplace else for a while. I could still show up to events that I was invited to. Be seen around town. But just return to my apartment so The state wouldn't think I had committed fraud.
This certainly wouldn't work in a state that requires a winner

Extradition trial begins this week in $16.5M Hot Lotto fraud case
Maybe I wrongly assumed it, but I thought the ticket was a QP when the NY Attorney tried to validate it on behalf of a trust. One would think because this is a criminal proceeding, the story should have all the important details.
What I don't understand is this being called a $16.5M Hot Lotto fraud case
For starters (according to this story), they can't even prove without reasonable doubt that Tipton bought the ticket or what if any was Rhodes involvement. Does it really make any sense f

Extradition trial begins this week in $16.5M Hot Lotto fraud case
The Hot Lotto people have a huge huge problem proving it's possible that Tipton rigged the drawing five or six weeks before and then actually rigged a lottery terminal to print the same numbers.
Any terminal can be made to print out any combination on a ticket by simple filling out a play slip, I do it all the time since I'm a system player.
What I don't understand is this being called a $16.5M Hot Lotto fraud case if $16.5M was the projected annuity pay out amount over thirty years. If

Texas legislature to consider lottery winner anonymity bill
I was just reading on another website (which will go nameless, from me anyway) that it is against this bill because of the chance that the TLC could claim there is a jackpot winner when there really isn't, and just take the money, (this would only work for a Texas lottery game, not MM or PB).
On one hand this is something I haven't thought of, but.......I really don't think a state lottery commission would actually steal a jackpot or commit fraud. If they did such a thing and got caught, it w

Texas man charged in Iowa lottery case contests extradition
Prosecutors theorize that Tipton in November 2010 inserted a malicious software program into a computer that ran the random number generator for Hot Lotto, allowing him to manipulate the winning combination for the jackpot.
It didn't take much evidence to get a Grand Jury indictment for fraud against Tipton because they have video of him buying the ticket, but they might need more than a theory to convince a Texas court Rhodes was involved. They have phone records proving Tipton spoke to Rhod

Texas man charged in Iowa lottery case contests extradition
A Texas businessman accused of helping a lottery security official to try to claim a rigged $14 million jackpot is out of jail while he fights extradition to Iowa.
Robert Rhodes, 46, of Sugar Land, Texas, left a county jail after posting bond April 9, three weeks after his arrest on two counts of fraud, court records show. He's expected to contest his extradition to Iowa during a May 7 hearing and is under electronic monitoring in the meantime.
Rhodes is denying charges that he worked with

Connecticut Lottery makes its pitch for keno
There are a lot of avid keno players so I think this would be a great move for the state. If you go to the casino, there are definitely keno regulars that have won using pattern recognition. I know many who have gotten multiple jackpots on electronic or video keno machines. There are keno books out there and these folks have verified so many wins.
I guess anything is subject to fraud without the right regulation and hopefully the gaming commissions are going to do their job. I guess we all ha
