The Florida Lottery announced Friday the $1 million top prize for the Million Dollar Monopoly scratch-off game was claimed by Myrna Fonda, 90, of Seffner. Fonda, who was joined at Lottery Headquarters by her husband Robert Fonda and her grandson, said she purchased the winning scratch-off ticket at Winn Dixie, 725 E. CASHLESS ONLY: "Flip & Switch"
Regarding the NEW PA game, Mix Match , well wouldn't you know? The PA Lottery had boldly announced in its press release: Cash jackpots will start at $50,000, but if the top prize is not won in a drawing, the entire amount will roll over to the next drawing s jackpot. Guess what MONDAY's Jackpot is? A WHOPPING $60,000! Yes, you read that correctly: because nobody won tonight, the Jackpot increased by a WHOPPING $10,000! Is this a joke? All this for a TWO DOLLAR ticket? The gam

Pressure to win the lottery?
I don't have pressure to win. It's a game, one that I wouldn't spend even a dollar of needed money on. I WANT to win, My family and I will be just fine without a major (or minor) jackpot though. the only pressure I experience related to the lottery is when I whip up a spreadsheet or write a program... because I expect results. I write G-code all day for a wire EDM machine in a machine shop... I'm good at it, get expected results everytime... I aced my excel classes (even taught it for a

6 Disturbing Lottery "Trends"
Greg I commend you for your efforts and asking others to get involved. But everytime I see something like this I can't help but think that the best and only efective mehtod for this would be to simply not play the games such as you mentioned. Unfortunately, for some games there are plenty enough people who will play no matter what and that's all the lotteries really need. Before Mega Millions added California there was lots of hype in the media about possible $500,000,000 jackpot

To my fellow LP members
As I've posted before there is a highly respected consumer advocate, Clark Howard, who holds a dim view about purchasing annuities due to heavy commissions and heavy taxation when selling them. May 18, 2005 -- The time to buy an annuity is NEVER! http://clarkhoward.com/shownotes/category/6/23/ As far as CASH Only's posts if I don't want to read them, I simply don't. However there needs to be a voice somewhere against lotteries trending away from cash jackpots toward annuity only

Probability of a MegaMillions rollover.
I use what is called a Poisson distribution, assuming that all purchases are effectively random. When the number of tickets purchased is very small compared to the odds, a Poisson distribution will give numbers that are close to the numbers obtained by dividing the number of tickets purchased by the probability. However as the number of tickets purchased increases, there is a greater probability that each new purchaser will purchase a ticket with a set of numbers that has been already purch

E! Television to air 'Curse of the Lottery' Sunday
From the original post we have, Susan Bradley on the best way to claim a winning lottery ticket One of the first things a lottery winner should do in a perfect world is not claim the ticket in their name. You can form a blind trust, and you can have the lottery winnings put into the trust. I just checked the FAQ page for the Virginia Lottery about anonymous claimants and found this: Can I remain anonymous when I claim my lottery winnings? No. Winners often ask if they c

location, location, location?
justxploring This probably goes for Florida, too. Granted the bulk of the population in Illinois is in Cook County and the collar counites (those surrounding Cook County, where Chicago is) but it seems like nobody 'downstate' wins. Of course, there's a joke in Chicago that anything south of 183rd street is 'downstate'. (There's also a saying in Illinois that the dog barks in Chicago and wags its tail in Springfield, i.e., nothing south of Springfield exists). I thing the thing

Curious. What would the payouts be?
petergrfn: I beleive the payouts are more like this !!!! 63.6% of the prize pool. Example 400 million would render the claiment a cool $254,400,000 before taxes if the cash option was selected. However, I think most Lottery Commissions are required by law to take out at least 25% before the claiment is cut a check. Any remaining IRS payments are the responsibility of the claiment depending on his or her tax bracket. SOOOOOOO that would leave a check cut in the amount of $190,800,000
