One ticket wins $21 million Florida Lotto jackpot
Quote: Originally posted by LOTTOMIKE on March 6, 2006 thats a pretty impressive amount of money for matching 5 out of 6.i already have thoughts of playing this game......
It varies depending on the amount of winners. Last week 5/6 paid over $7,000. I wouldn't mind getting 5 out of 6! I've been playing this game for 12 years and never got more than 4 numbers. I get 3 numbers a lot which pays an average of $4.50. I think 4/6 should pay more..at least $100! I know I shouldn't chase a numbe

GA-KY-VA Lose for Life
I was a big fan of Lotto South, but that game is history now. There's no point in crying over spilled milk. I never really cashed a big ticket on Lotto South anyway. My biggest lottery win ever was $1000 on the old 6/42 Lotto Kentucky game. I genuinely look forward to playing the new Win for Life game with its 6/42 matrix and a bonus ball.
There's no way in the world I would boycott Win for Life. Gigantic jackpots might be quite attractive to most people, but the chances of winning such a jac

jackpot lottery pool
I voted yes. I've been in many pools over the years. I ran an office pool for several months before I retired.
The way I see it, I can buy 10 tickets playing alone, or join with a few others and buy 100 or 200 or more tickets. That many more chances to win something, despite the angst that could develope afterwards, whether it be family members or coworkers.
But the problem for me is that while some pools do make more than they lose, almost all rely on quick picks, which, in my humble opin

Are you a believer in Lottery systems
I have purchased several programs, none of which has provided consistent results. I keep detailed records and have concluded that playing combinations suggested by several of programs is a total waste of money. However, there is positive side. Knowing that certain systems will almost always be completely wrong, I use the suggestions to develop sequences for wheel play. Trying to determine which numbers to put in a wheel has always been difficult for me, but using the 'loser' suggestions has been

Probability of a MegaMillions rollover.
Quote: Originally posted by dvdiva on February 25, 2006 Those results look pretty good. Your estimates just keep getting better for the sales numbers.
The evolution of the jackpot numbers do look good, but I recognized that because of the adhoc way I was messing around with this stuff, I made a mistake on the rollover probabilities. (The jackpot evolution is unchanged.) The probabilities of rollovers are actually somewhat higher than I wrote, because I shifted the cells in the excel sheet

Probability of a MegaMillions rollover.
The MM jackpot has rolled over. The cash jackpot is now $152.8M, the annuity jackpot is $256M. The actual cash value of the last jackpot ended up being, based on sales $130.1M. For some reason sales figures for this 14th draw deviated strongly from the average sales figures for previous 14th drawings, being much stronger. The mathematical model I had been using to measure sales, that up until now has worked so well, to predict future jackpots was off by 6%. I am maintaining the curve f

odds are reduced
It does happen when you buy all the tickets that are possible.
You can not use this as an example becuase buying all the tickets possible assumes a solo hit. If someone else has the same combination you are now stuck millions of dollars. So you have the means to buy $175, 711,536 tickets figuring you've got the jackp[ot locked up and then if one other person has the same ticket you've just cut your winnings in half. Let's say the jackpot was $200,000,000. That'a what you think you're g

Payments are not that bad.
Taken from the Powerball FAQ page:

WHY HAS THE CASH JACKPOT GONE DOWN?
Actually, it is the annuity jackpot that has gone UP. Most people assume that we start with the annuity, but we actually start with the cash jackpot. In the Powerball game, thirty cents of every dollar sold goes into the cash jackpot pool. The difference between the cash jackpot and the annuity jackpot depends on how much we can make

Powerball lottery jackpot hits record $365 million
If the state's intent was just to have time to earn interest the 60 day limit would be pretty stupid. Of course if the state can't earn interest on it while they still have it, that would also be stupid.
As far as how long it takes to get your act together before claiming the money, I'd figure that anybody who does it in much less than 60 days (which seems to be most winners)is probably both very efficient and very busy or they haven't actually made good plans. For starters I just can't pac
