Having a lottery machine: Now that's the ticket
Some states have scanners that can check both onlilne and instant tickets (WI has GTECH - their latest models can check both)and there are layers of security to check for retailers who go fishing for winning tickets. Don't you WANT retailers buying tickets? It's one of the ways players know the games are legit.

Original buyer of $1M lottery ticket identified
Do you know that for a fact, Raven62, or are you just guessing? It's clear they didn't have him arrested for theft. But the legal question of whether they tacitly consented to allowing him ownership of the ticket seems to me to be entirely up for grabs. They certainly have him on the security camera taking the ticket.I'd bet if the dumpster diver wins his court case against the original purchaser his legal battles over the money haven't even begun. And the party of the second part definitely has

Multi-dimensional analysis
Mathematicians tend to describe things to make them sound more complex than they really are. Its job security. Any independent aspect of the numbers may be considered as a separate dimension.Range, deltas, skips, temperature can be considered different dimensions. Considering these (and others) will provide you with more info. regarding your numbers. Not every filter is a good one. Remember what The Gambler said; know what to throw away, know what to keep.

....if you could create your own lottery
I would guarantee anonymity to all winners, that would be very good selling point. Privacy is becoming more important these days. It's not that people are unwilling to share their good fortune but, just as people don't go around announcing their salary, why should a lottery win be announced to all. As people are more security conscious, they don't want their financial situation made public.

Jackpot Winner Anonymity poll...
In the UK, winners can remain anonymous if they wish and most do. People who volunteer for publicity usually regret it afterwards. The media investigates every aspect of the lives, who wants everything about them on the front of tabloids, especially in the UK? I have always like the idea of fortune - as in financial security, but the fame thing has never appealed to me.

Newspaper takes a hard look at the N.J. Lottery
Quote from the Star-Ledger:There are more lottery retailers per capita in lower-income areas. Bayonne, where the average income is $58,971, has one outlet for every 750 residents...I agree with the article EXCEPT for the low income part. Wonder what they call people living on Social Security making less than $10,000 per year?Anyone with an income in the range of $50,000 should be living quite well and can afford all the lottery tickets they want!

lottery jackpot winnings
You probably can't avoid some media coverage at the outset. If the harrassment persisted, I would probably seek the assistance of an attorney to limit direct interaction with the lottery agency, the media, and other outside parties, and possibly seek out a private detective agency for advice on measures to reduce my family's visibility and improve their security. You now have money. Use it to get expert help.
