Expected Value is the average return based on odds and prizes. There isn't really a set formula (it can be calculated for a wide variety of games), but it's fairly simple to calculate, if you know all of the variables (I don't, so I had to estimate). This was the excel spreadsheet I used. The first column is the expected prize, the second is the odds of winning it and the third is the product of the two. As you can see, I had $7,828,648 as the expected Jackpot win. This is because I used the cas

Absolutely no ,i'm not a lottery player this sense but modest punter on numbers,
net profit at any cost is the only thing really counts for me.

Waiting for Wealth
Interesting point of view....mind answering a few questions for me ?? Your 2nd sentence for example, that they take enough money to support themselves, their family, church and community .....Well, WHO decides how much ???.. Where do you set the limit on how much is enough? If you set a limit, is it based on the city, county or state you live in?....... The United States did not be come the country it is today by more regulations on earned income. We became the country we are today based on the av

Lottery Patterns in the LMG
i like to match patterns in take five...the patterns occur in skips according to the FF.
so i place three flag numbers/streaking numbers...and flag is supposed to mean five i think...
(but 0d 1d 2d 3d are better and easier to track...and happen more often, especially 0d and 1d)
so i place three flag number with...
two long shots...or
two trend reversals...
or two intermediate flags..
or two adjacent...
or two doubles...
and pray for some smart luck...

$640 MILLION: MEGA MANIA!
Mega Millions buying frenzy sends jackpot beyond highest imagined amount
By Todd Northrop
Even the state lotteries offering Mega Millions did not imagine a jackpot this large.
When Mega Millions last changed its number matrix in June, 2005, the lotteries said that it created the possiblility that could swell the game's jackpots as high as half a billion dollars. (See Odds longer, prizes bigger as California joins Mega Millions, Lottery Post, June 22, 2005.)
Could they have imagined t

$540 MILLION: Mega Millions buying frenzy sparks another jackpot increase
DON'T shoot the messenger....
I Just read this on another website I frequent.....I personally think it's bunk but hey we are talking about $$$$$$ so I suppose anything is possible. They have security to prevent this from happening right??
THE LOTTERY IS RIGGED
You may have heard that you are more likely to be hit on the head by a meteorite than to win the lottery. This is certainly so. Assuming that the game is honest, the odds are roughly one in several hundred million. Even

Online Illinois lottery tickets net $15K first day
I'm from IL. Since this is only open to IL residents, I figured I'd explain how the online tickets work.
There have been yearly subscriptions sold online for some time now. I got one of those in January so I already had an account on their site with all my info entered. I also had $2 won from the subscription sitting in my account balance, and I just used that to purchase 2 plays of Mega Millions.
The process worked similarly to setting up the subscription and it was really easy. You can m

Buying More Tickets Does Not Increase Your Odds.
Sure the math sounds right Floyd, but in the grand scheme of lotto it's just hype.
Everyday people beat 100 to 1 odds in Pick 3 and 10,000 to 1 odds in Pick 4. So since you've whittled down Mega Millioins to 10 to 1 (once upon a time) where are the payouts? Reversing the 17,500,000 tickets we could cut it down Pick 3 or Pick 4 odds, oh where oh where can the jackpots be?
Here's some more dazzling math for you, from an old Abbott and Costello routine.
You are 40 and your niece is 10. You

Buying More Tickets Does Not Increase Your Odds.
RL-RANDOMLOGIC,
No matter how many chances are bought ech and everyone of those chances are up against the same odds......unless they are drawing more than one set of winning numbers.
Medibrat,
There was a thread similar to this about six years ago, but the gist of that thread was cutting the odds in half . Much of the discussion was at odds of 175M to 1, a second dollar played would reduce them to 87.5M to 1, same discussion as this. But some of those proposing that said that the secon
