$116M Georgia Powerball winner claims prize
Just for the record, those Air Traffic Controllers (I knew one of them) signed a contract agreeing that they could never go on strike. Shutting down air traffic and holding the nation hostage for higher wages was a matter of national security. They were already making a ton of money compared to other unions. They broke their bond, they violated their trust, they went back on their word. President Reagan gave them a chance to return to work while continuing negotiations. They refused.

Attention State Lottery Officials - Here's What The Players Want
Excellent topic rdgrnr. Although my State, Maryland, has started a blog on it's web site, I do believe someone @ MDSL continues to monitor LP. MDSL uses the ball system to pick all of it's games, but some how we all question the randomness. Are the pre-test being taped and run as if it's the true winning numbers when the computer that take in the bets have generated the intake of the money and numbers that have been played? My biggest beef has been, 2 things; 1.) Airing the drawings

Mega Millions, Powerball lottery ticket cross-sales begins today
Sorry, Bagent--the only thing universal lotttery will do is keep out of state winners from having to pay taxes to both where they live AND where they bought the tkt. The government and states are already WAYYYYYYY ahead of us poor wanna-be winners and have figured all the tax wrinkles--besides--why would you want to cheat any government out of their fair share for roads, health care, industry tax abatement for industry, fact finding missions to China--hmmmm--on the other hand maybe I better

Couple at odds over Powerball lottery prize
Outside of the legalities, what are we doing in life ? What are we being reduced to ? I'm married, so *I* buy a ticket, *I* win, and my wife theoretically would get nothing, since she didn't physically purchase the ticket ???? What if my wife buys a ticket while I am doing other home projects ? If it wins, I suppose she gets it all and I get none ? Forget the fact that these two were not married, married or not it seems to me there should be an implied contract, and if the guy is d

How are payments invested?
That's what I was saying regarding how money is invested. A 20 year annuity has to have a higher interest rate to reach the same jackpot as a 30 year annuity. MM is 26 years, so it's somewhere in the middle. PB cash option is usually a little less than 50% and MM is usually around 60%. I know I've said this before when people have asked why the cash option for MM is higher than PB when the jackpots are similar. It's all based on what initial investment is required to payout the jackpot after XX

How are payments invested?
Not true, but I don't want to get into another argument. They are talking about the initial amount to make the lump sum payment, meaning that if they advertise $100 million, the cash option might vary. Once annual payments are chosen, you have a structured settlement and you will get the same check every year. People always choose to read things the way they want to, whether or not they understand the verbage. I hope you are not a financial planner or investment counselor, since you would be

Killer of lottery winner convicted
Old SchoolPa---Maybe I am misunderstanding you here, but the statement you made about women is incorrect. I hope you aren't using TV programs as your only source. Most reliable financial publications will tell you that, as a rule, woman handle money more prudently than men. When asked, most men women will talk about Mom and how she kept a warchful eye on the family budget. The stereotype you bring up is why many people don't believe a woman can run the country and fix the economy. Okay...nex

Court: elderly sisters' gambling pact forces lottery jackpot split
The Connecticut Appeals Court has ruled a 1995 pact struck by two widowed sisters to split each other's future gambling winnings is still binding despite the fact they no longer speak to one another. The decision paves the way for a public family feud pitting Theresa Sokaitis, 81, against Rose Bakaysa, 85, over a $500,000 Powerball jackpot Bakaysa hit on June 18, 2005, but doesn't want to share with her estranged sibling. Sokaitis is suing Bakaysa for breach of contract. Bakaysa's attorney
