As you say, ANY method will fail, UNLESS your prediction IS NOT based on your lottery history but what you are describing (retrofitting a modular linear recursion to the data) necessarily uses the lottery history, so, by your own words it should fail to predict the right numbers. Nevertheless, it sounds like a fun math/programming project. I suspect you will feel too boxed-in with only four parameters and eventually increase the number.
