State Budget Crisis and Lottery Prize
perhaps CA should join the Mega Millions Neighborhood at once, the way FL did
and retire their SLP?
More importantly, in my opinion, would be to increase the payouts of the Pick 3s, 4s, and 5s across the U.S. by at least 30% but ideally more.
Winners ($1000+) are withheld about a fourth or a third anyway as it is, aren't they? It's a shame to owe a lot of tax on the lottery (which is like a voluntary tax in the first place) which has awful odds by the measure of their payout.

207 Million over.
You have to realize that a few millions of dollars can make HUGE differences. You don't need to win 207millions at all. It will drag you into unwanted attentions and whatnot. The smaller the winning the easier to remain unseen. And you will surely love the anonymity.
I'd be happy to win more than a few million dollars because I want to help my family. Whenever the jackpot amount for SLP goes near 40millions I start buying the tickets. 17~18millions is pretty darn good you know. If you buy s

Lottery winner almost out of cash three years later
I could spend that amount, very easily (horses - not racers, but show jumpers). But I won't because I know I can. Does that make sense?
Although $3.7m is nothing to sneeze at, it is also nothing to quit your day job over. It's a VERY nice nest egg. One that will make your worries about retirement go away. Properly managed, winning that amount at age 45, you could retire early at say age 55 or 60, buy a motorhome and see the country. That would be so cool.

$42M lottery winner plans to become a pecan farmer
A Detroit-area man who won a $42 million Mega Millions jackpot plans to retire from Chrysler and become a pecan farmer in Georgia.
Chris Crane, 51, was given a ceremonial check Friday at the Michigan Lottery headquarters in Lansing.
The resident of Macomb County's Washington Township told reporters he will leave his job as a Chrysler service engineer within weeks.
I always wanted to do a little bit of farming, said Crane, who has some property in Georgia. This will be my chance.

You could be right .... on the other hand I think it will be won by an aging, hair-going-gray grandma from Oregon who hedges her bets and gets some QPs and also plays a couple of tickets worth of her own picks Tickets now are tucked under her favorite Quan Yin statue for luck .... When she wins she's going to retire from her job, give part of the money to family and friends, go on a round the world cruise and buy condos in Virginia near son, Texas near best friend, Santa Fe cuz she love

Help Please: Similarities between Lottery & Insurance: my last post for 2008
why try to use the lottery as an insurance policy when you can simply buy insurance?
Well i wanted to know how the lottery could be like life insurance but what i had in mind is to make the lottery be like retirement...People work all their lives and the majority retire with less than 100,000 dollars i bet...I was wondering how could we make one person sort of put money like life insurace (the tickets playing) and then after 20 or 30 years of playing could retired with let's say 1 million dol

so would you tell your boss why you were quitting your job
I've worked for the same company for 20 years so if I ever won a jackpot I'd call HR very quickly and start planning my retirement.... I have so much accrued leave time I'd get about 3 months of pre retirement vacation at full pay :) So I'd be able to be on vacation while working with financial advisors to make sure I can stay that way. And to let my coworkers know I was leaving ... I have an old Far Side cartoon that I've been saving ... guy in a Hawaiian shirt has a hammock strung up across hi

Has a lottery win given you financial freedom?
Have you won a jackpot or a substantial prize which has given you the financial freedom to do as you please?
Did you retire early?
Did you start your own business?
How did you invest your jackpot to ensure your financial freedom is secure for the long-term?
