Powerball Lotto in each state to start a bussiness to better the U.S Economy...
What you suggest will never happen in the USA the lottery cannot force people to start a business. The majority of people who play and win big jackpots do so, so they can retire from their jobs and stop working or pursue their dreams like traveling and such. While the majority of winners might not have the desire to continue working after winning they will spend much of their time trying to find ways to spend their money. The lottery's in the USA are in it to make money for the states they ar

Kellogg's worker won't change much after winning $1M lottery jackpot
Very few people when they retire are lucky enough to have a retirement plan that pays over $34K a year AFTER taxes. Along with social security (and possibly a pension) this couple will probably be very comfortable. However, if I were working at a job with group health insurance, I would probably stay until I was eligible for Medicare. Just one bad illness can wipe you out. Maybe our new President will change that soon, but it will take time. We can only pray!

Buying real estate with lottery winning
Hear, hear, MFYL, I'm with you. Now that's the thing I like hearing about. I would do it anonymously, but happiness for me would be winning enough to retire on and doing something for others less fortunate, someone that really needs help. (and no, not these organized charities ) For me, if I won enough to really live one say 15, 20 million, I would have no problem helping others with it like shelters. I look at someone like Brad Duke who won what, 85 millon and now wants to get to 1 billio

Louisiana man collects $97 million Powerball lottery jackpot
I disagree with the last several posters. I can't imagine why a self-employed person, and certainly a contractor, would want to claim the prize before being ready to close up shop if his intention was to retire afterward. He had contracts to fulfill and the honorable thing to do was to do so in a timely manner. I'd think he'd have a hard time keeping his mind on the work if he already had the money. Plus he'd have more hassles with employees who wanted him to share and with clients who thought s

Some lottery millionaires can't wait to return to work
I agree, Being out of a job and in need of an income is one thing, but not working and not having the burden of needing and income is entirely different. If/when I win, after the year of home building and such, I will probably volunteer at an animal shelter or something that I would truly enjoy. Something that I can't do now due to minimum income needs. (I'm talking about fulltime volunteering) This would of course be based on the amount, i win. I don't think I could unofficially retire wi

Some lottery millionaires can't wait to return to work
Personally, I think is selfish to go to work after winning millions. A lot of people are out of work and need jobs. If I was lucky enough to win a big lottery, I just could not bring myself go in to work knowing that I don't have to be there. That's selfish. Instyle, I agree, but it depends on the type of job. Look at all the multi-millionaires who own companies and are still very active or the politicians who are wealthy before they bother to campaign. Wealthy actors directors still m

Some lottery millionaires can't wait to return to work
I know people who thought they couldn't wait to never work again. And when the time came for them to retire, they couldn't bear it. They felt so empty. They felt bored. I have heard a lot of things they say for not wanting to quit work. Only a small handful have actually said it was money that made them go back to work. So I have no problem understanding that some people just have a need to work in some way. It keeps them in the flow of things. It keeps them in touch with people they can rela
