You can't buy happiness, but you can buy freedom
If I had won a big jackpot when I was in my 30s or 40s, yes, starting my own business would have been a perfect solution for me. At that time I was a workaholic and couldn't imagine ever wanting to retire. I'd have taken a few more business courses first to cover those areas in which I felt I lacked enough knowledge to be successful, but having the capital at that stage of my life would have given me the freedom to be a workaholic for me, not for someone else. But at this stage of life I am

Powerball lottery jackpot hits $200 million
Tntea and Sirbrad, You really can retire on $1,000,000? To be truly honest, living in California I couldn't-but I could live much more comfortably, because I would then be able to put away enough for retirement but still work (at a job that i liked not one that income would force me to be tied to.) The good news is, I would only need about 4 to 5 million to not work at all. I still have a ways to go before I could even think about retiring. but no I don't need $150 or even $20 million.

Powerball lottery jackpot hits $200 million
I think you have to take into consideration that those wanting the maximum that is possible are thniking beyond yesterday? They might be thinking about a life of Luxury for generations to come? They might be thinking that there is more to life then sitting in the backyard and polishing their new extended-bed pickup truck. They might be thinking that with a hundred million dollars, they don't have to retire , but can go on to become some one great, some one who can create company's, thus creating

My W - L Tally for 2007
Coin Toss, I have records on my other computer for 2005, and 2006. My kid is on that one right now, but I'm going to check the percentages and see when he gets done. I play most of the games, except scratchoffs. My plan has been to play the jackpot games to retire, and the daily games like P3 and P4 to make the money back I lose on the jackpot games...... ok, having read that I know people will think I'm nuts. Well, that's my little fantasy as I play each day. Lord knows that strategy i

The code
OK....I thought about it. Since you worked on it for so long, you should keep it to yourself or try to sell it on e-bay. Lord only knows that all the LP members here already have a lot of cash on hand plus much much more in the bank anyway. Enough to retire on our own island somewhere in the Bahamas. Oh... my bad...I forgot to save the whales yesterday....gotta go.....

Interest on Lotto winnings?
If Richard Branson is making that much in interest he should forget his current businesses and get into money management so that I can retire filthy rich in a couple of years. There are 8,760 hours in a year, so a billion dollars invested for an hour would be the same as 1,000,000,000/8,760 invested for a year. 1,000,000,000/8,544 is $114,155.25. To earn 750,000 an hour in interest he'd have to be getting about a 757% return. The 750,000 an hour would be $18 million every day, and 6.57 bill

Jackpot Value.
The West Virgina Cash25 jackpot is $25,000 because the odds of winning it are 1:177,100 which is lower than most state lottery games. It's the jackpot because it's the top prize and the top prizes of most games or sweepstakes are considered the jackpots regardless of their value. Only people who are happy to win those size jackpots participate in those games. A lot of people are happy to win $500 playing pick3 games, because most states sell more pick3 tickets than any of their other game
