Judge rules NJ couple's lottery annuity payments can't be taxed retroactively
The Michigan lottery used to be Michigan tax free before about 1988. People who won before that who got annuities were slapped with the state income tax in 1989. They sued and won and the rest of their annuity payments were free of Michigan tax. People who won after that had to pay the tax. Michigan now has the same type of Schizo policies with anonymity. Some winners can remain anonymous while others can't!

What is your detailed plan IF you won the jackpot PB or MG?
If I won the lottery, I would love to be anonymous. The only problem I have is that I will share the news with my spouse, who will tell everyone we know!. Is it even legal to hide the news from our spouse for that reason?

If you could play any US lottery from any state online would you switch to anonymous states?
I can't think of a single reason why anyone wouldn't opt to play in an anonymous state if they could do so with almost zero effort. I know some people will bring up playing in a state with no lottery tax might be preferential. I could see the draw in keeping millions of dollars more. But I care a whole lot less about taxes or lucky states than I do about anonymity. To me anonymity trumps everything else and is second only to actually winning a big jackpot.

If you could play any US lottery from any state online would you switch to anonymous states?
First the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 must be repealed or changed. If that happens, I suppose the rules that apply to remaining anonymous now will remain the same. That would only apply to MM and PB games.

Why it is important to remain anonymous...
Trying to remain anonymous by collecting with a trust wouldn't stop a determined person from bribing your lawyer or breaking into his office and stealing your file or kidnapping him and putting a gun to his head. Would your lawyer give his life to protect your anonymity?

What Day Will You Claim?
Since SC is an anonymous state, I would turn the ticket in next morning. Then find whatever professionals I may need to help manage the winnings. It takes a couple of weeks for the money to be available.

Thai monk says winning lottery number came from examining a tree's textures
How about, this was my first time playing. I only played one line. I got an oversized check made out to anonymous. There is no end to my story because I just might play again if the jackpot gets huge enough. No, that is too outlandish and not very interesting. Never mind, I made it all up!

Lawyers contact N.H. Lottery about $487 million jackpot
Well I have read several local news articles of winning tickets from NH of both the MM PB as well as tri-state mega bucks who claimed their winnings through a trust and I see no mention of the winners names, in every case it's states the winners remained anonymous. So this seems to demonstrate the ability for the winner to have anonymity if they follow this route. This has also been done successfully in other states including TX,TN,and CT.

UPDATED: Alabama Senate approves lottery bill
This is just an idea, but a way to put some sprinkles on top (if this all passes and gets approved etc.), and maybe draw in some people from other states (GA, FL, TN, etc.) would be to have AL join the ranks of DE, KS, ND, SC and OH (the anonymous claim states). I would drive 10 min for that!
