California Lottery under fire for giving away $212,500 in Scratchers on 'Ellen'
Comedian Ellen DeGeneres drew wild cheers from the studio audience of her television talk show in December when she announced each person in attendance would receive a $500 bundle of Scratchers tickets from the California State Lottery.
Lottery officials saw it as a publicity boon, but a whistleblower complaint filed by some lottery employees argues the agency's giveaway of the tickets which have a combined face value of $212,500 should be investigated as a misuse of funds, according to docum

Few filing claims in $4.3 million lottery scam settlement; deadline Jan. 7
Victims of the largest lottery scam in U.S. history are expected to pocket only a small fraction of a $4.3 million settlement because of a lack of applicants laying claim to the money, court records show.
But it's not too late.
Claims can be made online through Jan. 7 and those for $10 or less require no proof of purchase.
Larger ones require receipts dating back as far as 14 years.
If you're claiming more than $10 they sure made it difficult, said Craig Johnson, a Manson resident w

Nebraska woman told her winning lottery ticket is a dud
Connie Johnson got one of the very first scratch-off cards for the Nebraska Lottery's new Christmas game, Holiday Bonus Bucks.
In fact, the lady at Russ's Market, where Johnson goes to get prescriptions filled, hadn't even opened the packets for the new lottery game.
Have you got anything new? Johnson asked. The woman opened the new game tickets.
Johnson bought four of them, drove home, did a little house work, then sat down and scratched one.
It said I won $1,000!

California Lottery settles lawsuits with two former security staff
Employees were fired for questioning two jackpot payouts
The California State Lottery has paid more than $500,000 to settle lawsuits filed by two former investigators who claimed they were fired for calling attention to jackpots they believed the lottery improperly awarded to recipients who could not prove they were winners.
The two ousted lottery cops had flagged a $2 million jackpot in 2015 and a $750,000 prize in 2016 that they argued should not have been paid.
It was a travesty the

The Oregon Lottery is moving aggressively toward mobile phone betting
The first apps could debut next month
A Jantzen Beach sports bar called Bradley's did more video lottery business last year than any of the nearly 4,000 other lottery retailers in the state.
Bradley's took in $1.96 million in 2017. That means a video lottery player pushed a $20 bill into one of Bradley's machines every four minutes every day of the year.
But the Oregon Lottery looks at Bradley's success and sees trouble: an old-school tavern unlikely to attract young Oregonians glued to

Lottery scammer rigged more drawings than first thought, records show
The computer program that a former lottery security official used to rig drawings worth millions of dollars in Iowa and other states was more expansive than investigators first discovered, court records filed last week show.
Eddie Tipton, a former employee of the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL) in Clive, wrote the code to allow him to predict the randomly drawn numbers of multimillion-dollar jackpots in as many as 17 states and claim the cash prizes.
The code remained active and und

Pennsylvania expands gambling to pay for budget
Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf on Monday affixed what he hopes will be a final patch on a $2.3 billion budget deficit by signing into law sweeping new gambling provisions.
The state has doubled-down on its investment in the commercial gambling market, with new expectations of revenue from Internet-based games and a second string of casinos scattered around the Commonwealth.
The Pennsylvania Senate passed the far-reaching gambling expansion bill Wednesday that would legalize Internet games, aut

Network of dummy online stores used to hide internet gambling payments
A network of dummy online stores offering household goods has been used as a front for internet gambling payments, according to a recent investigation.
The seven sites, operated out of Europe, purport to sell items including fabric, DVD cases, maps, gift wrap, mechanical tape, pin badges and flags. In fact, they are fake outlets, part of a multinational system to disguise payments for the $40 billion global online gambling industry, which is illegal in many countries and some U.S. states.

Arkansas lottery players now can buy tickets with debit cards
Starting this summer, retailers selling tickets for the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery will be authorized to accept payment by debit cards, thanks to a new law that zipped through the Legislature in 23 days with little fanfare.
Since the lottery started selling tickets on Sept. 28, 2009, the law allowed only cash to be used in transactions. Now Arkansas will join most other state lotteries by allowing debit-card use.
Senate Bill 617 sponsored by Sen. Trent Garner, R-El Dorado is now Act 876

Any Ideas On Picking Position #1 on Pick 3?
I am looking for the 7 ball in first position in SC to drop
I just do search drawings and count the days it has skipped.
Jan 19th will be our 18th day on the 7 ball skip in first position.
The 7 ball was a stinker from Sept 12 to Oct 8
Had a 16 day skip on Nov 12 to Nov 28.
So I decided based on the rest of the results the past 6 months to put the 7 ball into play in first position.
It is all a judgement call.
