Statistician cracks secret code behind lottery tickets
I'll read the article later as it's rather long, but from the pictures it looks like you'd have to not only buy but also scratch off half the ticket in order to see if you've won or not... so how is this cracking a code ? I could see it as that if it allowed you to figure out a ticket was a winner without having to scratch anything, but not when it's something like the pictures suggest.

Lottery winner flees Spain penniless as bank seizes villa and bar
I'm sure you could have bought homes for a bit under 100k back in '97, but the article doesn't make me think he was the type to buy modest houses. In that case, he would have blown about half right at the start, and then everybody would have hefty bills for upkeep on the houses. Even if I'd won the whole MM myself when it hit $380 million, I'd have invested most of the net and figured I had a very generous, but very fixed income to live on.

$190M Idaho lottery winner sorts out her new life
You may have noticed that I have resisted posting any of the very intrusive stories and photos floating around the news media over the past week, despite many people here egging me on to do it. I thought this article gave just the right balance, and yes, the background information was essential for the reader to understand the story. So I believe there was nothing overly-intrusive about this story, and in fact it is helpful. You may, of course, disagree.

Going to RNG was my first thought after I read the article. If IGB does go computer, this move will only solidy my feelings about RNG's and Lotto.

Could you copy and paste that article in an e-mail to the Ca Lottery and ask them? (sorry I'm being too lazy to look myself)

With more money, more problems? Managing a windfall
Great article! I would keep a lot of things the same, but of course I would make changes.I would have a nice house and a few cars.I would basically be the same me but just more fun hahaha!I'm bookmarking this page for when I win.The financial advisor...James Gibbs....he told that guy from Kentucky to invest 16 of his 27 million and he could make him 85k a month.Sounds like a good friend to make. But truthfully...nobody knows EXACTLY what they would do if they won.

MADDOG'S Powerball Challenges (Discussion)
Todd, I think the Wikipedia article agrees [in spirit] with what you present here. I oversimplified to expedite my post. What's clear to me is that the article is much more in line with your assesment than my original (erroneous) claim that the cash payout was 1/2 of what it should be. Could someone point to the overall Powerball Jackpot stats for 2010? The only way to verify that the Expected Value of the Jackpot component of one Powerball ticket is 32.5 is to know the total number of tic

$237 MILLION: Mega Millions lottery jackpot raised again
I went to Florida website and there's no mention of adding MegaMillons so it's likely the article is incorrect. When Ohio added PowerBall, it had a flashy notice about it a couple of weeks before it actually started.

$237 MILLION: Mega Millions lottery jackpot raised again
Well, I don't know who edited that Wikipedia article but it is not correct. I live here in Florida and the Florida Lottery has done no advertising that it will add Mega Millions on January 5, 2011 which is just next week. Hopefully Florida will add Mega Millions but the odds of winning will get worse, the more states that join the MUSL then they change the odds and with Florida being such a populous state and heavy lottery state it will change Mega Millions odds of winning drastically

Mega Millions: $168M Christmas Eve lottery jackpot
The ticket WAS printed on Christmas Eve though (I know that's not what the article was saying but thought I'd throw that out there, since it would still be a Christmas Miracle since the numbers were printed before Christmas).
