$3000 a month is NOT enough to retire on.

John Daly / Charles Barkley gambling prob
Competition is addictive. Type A personalities have addictive natures. These two former sports stars palyed at the top of the heap and when people of this caliber retire, its hard to transition that competitive fire. Many end up gambling because of the high stakes and the adrenaline of beating someone on the other side of the table; the slots, or whatever.
Nevertheless, I wish I had the choices they have. Not saying I wouldn't end up with their problem, but given the choice and chance I

Powerball Annuity Makes Good Sense
When I started working 40yrs ago, the company I worked for had a saving and investment plan and I was surprised by the number of people who said it was bad because in 30 years money could be worthless and they were going to invest on their own. Five years ago when I retired they had changed their tunes, they hadn't invested or saved and they wanted to retire. Five percent of their salary at 3-4% over 35 years looked a lot better as they approached sixty.
If a person is young and doesn't hav

Winning a lottery jackpot can't guarantee happiness
Hi, Jim. I don't know if you are responding to my post, but I always think of the FL Lottery, not PB or MM. The news would be more local in that case. Plus, the above article isn't just talking about the $300M winners. I read the paper and watch the new everyday and have no idea who won $5M 2 years ago. I would agree 100% with what you wrote if that person decides to live and work in the same area. Some people would never be able to just pack up and split, because of ties to the community. It wo

Moving before claiming your lotto winning
As a retired teacher myself, I can appreciate your dilemma. Though I didn't retire from teaching in quite as small a town as I suspect you might be living, I have taught in such a place, and you'd have more people to say no to than I'd want to face. Saying no to strangers is one thing, but to people you know and really do like would be much more difficult.
I can't see why the lottery people should care. People move all the time, and it isn't that odd that someone should happen to move ju

It's nice when people thank you for your service, but I'm just a pencil pusher, (personnel) someone has to process the paperwork right?? Technology is replacing our jobs, along with civilians
I wanted to win before I retire!!
Reading your post about the dream book saddens me that me dreaming about winning the lottery really wasn't winning at all, I should have known.......I couldn't make out any numbers on the ticket. I do remember the feeling though was surreal, like I WON!

Is anyone making a living from lottery?
I know some people retire when they win a big prize but does anyone know of anyone who wins every month or so and this IS their living? Just curious if this is possible without counting on ONE big win which may or may not ever happen?
Many of you make predictions for many different state's games even Europe? Is this just a game for you or do you actually buy all the tickets you predict show winnings for? If you actually buy these tickets, how do you do this? Is it thru internet sales? We

should i stop playing or keep playing
If this is a serious post, then I would tell you to stop playing. However, if you're really hooked on the lottery, nobody can give you advice unless you seek counseling. Where is the money coming from? $80 is a lot of money for a teenager. That averages over $4,000 a year. Hoping that someday you'll win a big jackpot and depending on it are 2 different ways of thinking. All of us want to win lots of money to make our lives a little easier. We older folks who have worked for over 30 years want t

Study in Prediction for Jeff's "R" State.
Best place to retire is Florida - tax benefits all over the place! Home Stead exemptions and more - with sun and beaches. Only negative is hurricanes. I used to go to the gambling boats that are lined up along the Ohio River and then got really, really angry at Indiana for not sinking the money into the education, like they say they do. Yeah Right! If so, why are Hoosiers still required to pay for rental school books at an average of $100 per child?
We didn't pay for school books in Fl
