I hope the Virginia Lottery will reconsider this policy. If you live in Virginia , please email the lottery in support of the right of winners' to remain anonymous.

The ugly side of the win. How would you deal with close family and friends who...?
Only something like 4 states allow winners to be anonymous so chances are already low that that is an option for anyone who wins big. You have to set limits from day 1. Here's amount x. This is more money than you've ever had in you're entire life. Don't come back. If you don't friends and family will make your life a living hell.

Another false rumor started about a so called lottery winner
There you go guys the family in Tennessee is already being sued by a former inmate who claims he chipped on the buying the tickets. This is why it's important to stay anonymous or at least as much as possible. Expect more lawsuits against this family. Now we'll see how good that attorney is that told them to go public.

States That Allow Winners' To Remain Anonymous
There's a very good Forbes article you can Google titled How To Remain Anonymous If You Win The $1.5 Billion Powerball Lottery . It talks about going one step further than just forming an LLC. The author states that you should also form a Claiming Trust to claim the ticket with the LLC (Bridge Trust) being the grantor of the trust. The Claiming Trust would be subject to the Freedom of Information Act, whereas the Bridge Trust would not be.

Lottery officials say identifying winners a must
Most states have different policies on the amount of info they release on a winner. A few will only release first and last name, so if you are a John Smith or something like that you can remain perfectly anonymous. However, some states will require a photo of you with a check release your full name, street address, date of birth, and possibly even social security number. States like that leave winners open not only to physical danger, but also identity theft!

Georgia Lottery winner killed during home invasion
This is totally tragic. I really hope the ga legislature passes a law that allows for anonymous claims. There is a bill out there now but the state wants to withhold 25% of the winnings for that privledge. And that is not the way to go either.

California Lottery officials seized surveillance footage from store that sold Powerball ticket
i dont recall the whole story just that they pulled the video that showed the person buying and then asked others to help identify him. It is a double edged sword, yes remind or help the buyer but also exposes the person if they wanted to be as anonymous as possible. Cant imagine if I had purchased a ticket I would forget but stranger things have happened. If that had been me, nobody would have to remind me to check my ticket.

Lottery veterans question Tennessee family's behavior before claiming Powerball winnings
Looks like they are trying to stay anonymous with that font. I doubt they know the winners. Black girls win all the time, and usually it never ends well. So it is easy to predict that. I can see the font OK but I have a 33 inch LED for my PC and a 55 Inch for my TV. Maybe it is her posting who won you never know.
