$800 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot surges on rollover
I believe it was in the article the other day. It said something about the cash option is much lower now than before because of inflation being so bad. The cash option is cash-on-hand. At this point it does look so much better to take the annuity. Then again, will the state still be solvent enough to have the annuity money 30 years down the line

$800 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot surges on rollover
Why is the cash amount so much less then only a few months ago. In July when the annuity prize was 830 million the cash prize was 488 million. now it is only 383 million for 800 million annuity. I would like to know why? I know it is the powerball vs the mega million but if you go back into the powerball history then you would see the same trend. Why almost 100 million difference?

Why isn't there a choice to split the Lump sum and the Annuity?
The way your state lottery invests money to pay out annuities should be public info. So first, file a public records request to find out how they invest the money. Next, when you win, ask for the lump sum and then invest half of it the way the lottery does. Pay yourself an annuity out of the interest. Boom, now you got an annuity and a lump sum.

N.C. man wins two $25,000 a year for life prizes after accidentally playing same numbers twice
If he takes the annuity on both prizes he'll end up with $35,375 a year after taxes. 24% Fed and 5.25% state. If he lives 25 years to age 74, he'll end up with $884,375 take home. That's way more than the $551,850 he got after taxes right now. If he does all the things he wants now, there might not be much left. If he splits it, one annuity, one lump sum, at age 74 he has $718,112 clear. And 558,925 at 65. If he took the annuity on both and retires 16 years from now at 65, he'd have $566,

$620 MILLION: Powerball lottery jackpot rolls again
That finishing total moved it up one notch on the biggest annuity list, to #9, but the cash value was still about $10 million shy of moving up from #8 to #7. The official PB website still says pending, but USAMega and the state sites I've looked at all show a rollover. That amount is the $670 million that was forecast when last night's was still advertised at 635, so it now represents a whopping increase of $18.7 million for the annuity and about $13.5 million cash. That will move the annuity

Oregon man wins two prizes for life in one drawing
Lotteries typically provide a lump-sum cash option for every game/prize that is awarded as annuity. It is equal to the amount of cash needed to fund the annuity. If you can't locate the cash option on a particular game, the lottery should be able to tell you what it is if you write to them.
