Pa. Man Charged With Redeeming Forged Winning Lottery Ticket
This news article is brimming with speculation without so much as evidence as to: Was it a powerball ticket? An instant ticket? In what way was it forged? Leaving out this tidbit of information merely guards the Lottery commission for when this case is presented to the courts. As the story says- hes from Cumberland County - which means he's probably showing signs from TMI radiation . I recall poor judgement was a side effect from this event , or at least that will be what his laywer could use in

Powerball lottery winners talk about hitting the jackpot
Value of life is not a term used by people in the financial industry. The Law of Large Numbers which is used when determining Mortality Tables is based on statistics and demographics. I agree that a person with a large fortune has certain responsibilities, including properly allocating his money and setting up a trust to secure the future of your loved ones. However, that wasn't the subject matter to which I was responding. Bob Cheney is in poor health, not just because of his age. His wif

Mistakes
I'll look for the title and author of the book the next time I'm in the library. The author says that each pick is an independent random event, so there is no way of predicting what the number will be. He says lottery number picking software is a scam. Mistake tickets are tickets that are rejected by the original purchaser for one reason or another. The mistake tickets I bought were from my father's request. He wanted 7 tickets, $2 each. The clerk printed out 6 tickets, $1 each before he cau

Math involving the number on the ball
Ball drawings are a random event. Each ball has a chance at being drawn. Each ball that is drawn just happened to be at the machines opening/orifice when it was drawn. RNG's are a different story. Any chipset in an RNG drawing can be manipulated to draw whatever sequence of numbers that it was programed to. Which is one reason I don't like RNG drawings. An example of a manipulated RNG is KENO where say you bet 10 numbers and a couple thousand other people bet there numbers the RNG pays out a perc

Mega-Millions
Chewie is correct. In the event that a state cannot submit its reports, the drawing is delayed. This would include power outageous or software glitches. Each state is accountable for reporting accurately and within the correct time frame as listed on the Policy. There is no way on this green earth that I would leave my money and my potential winning numbers with a clerk in hopes that she will honestly enter them into the system at a later time. What proof will you have when you return to get yo

Will someone win a starting level MM JP?
Last year there were only 6 starting jackpots. In general the probability that a starting jackpot will get hit is about 8%. Thus the probability that there will be is winning ticket on a starting ticket is 0.08*6 = 0.48. It can be shown statistically, if last year is typical for the occurance of starting jackpots, that one would expect a starting jackpot to be won about every two years. However last year is not representative, since the odds have been changed. I would expect that it would t

CDN Lotto 649 Sets A New Record
It's probably too late to join existing pools for tonight's $40 million draw, but there is still a 6% chance that the jackpot will roll over again for Saturday. In that event, how do we go about settting up a pool? My idea is that if we get enough players, then we can buy a bunch of 8-number combination plays. For example, if we get 40 members willing to spend C$42 each through Paypal, then we can buy 10 8-number combinations, covering 840 possibilities. The tickets can be scanned and emailed to

ALLEGED Powerball winner in seclusion
nighttrain not to worry he put it in the safe deposit box in his bank. I wouldn't sign the ticket until I talked to my lawyer and financial planner. I don't know all the rules and laws in Oregon so if he choses to sign it to a trust then the ticket might have to be signed in the trusts name. In either event it in a safe place. If he signed it in his name then he might not be able to signed it to a trust. These are some of the things you have to decide. Someone in his family already said they wis

Lottery fight brewing in Massachusetts
I agree with you.The human memory tends to be opportunistic, circling around behind to fill in needed gaps in the pre-event reality to shore up a sagging present. The guy obviously didn't know he had a big winner. If he had, he wouldn't have put it in any pile. He'd have carefully finished scratching it, gazed at it, studied it, examined it to figure out how he was reading it wrong, fooling himself. The store owner knew he'd bought a lot of tickets, knew where his bread was likely to be best but

Am I wrong?
Your odds are the same.. However, I predict it will be hit soon...Reason being.. After it climbed up there and the lines of buying tickets got longer, people started playing more tickets and for more draws.. So the combinations given out for the biggy is still out there for tomorrow night...I had more people buy two - five draws so that in the event the number wasn't hit.. they would not have to go back through the lines again for a few draws.. I even recommended it so it wouldn't mess up my bal
