Iowa Lottery on the verge of revealing names of 'Shipping 20' winners
Joe Day of Cedar Rapids, a lawyer who represents the Shipping 20 Trust, said the legal winner of the Powerball jackpot is the Shipping 20 Trust, and the workers are beneficiaries of the trust who cannot be identified without their consent. He contended that the trust was created the minute the group created a pool to buy lottery tickets.
This lawyer is claiming that this group formed the trust the minute the pool was created? wow - someone was 'in the know' to realize that their particular po

48 Philly transit workers win $172M Powerball jackpot
It depends on which statistics you look at. How often a pool wins has nothing to do with it. It's about how many people win and how much they win.
So far this year 4 people have won by playing alone and 48 have won as a result of playing in a pool. 12 times as many people won as a result of playing in a pool. 48 people will take home about $1.5 million after taxes (assuming they take the cash). The other 4 will get about $50 million each, as an average. I'd rather have $50 million than $1.5 m

Which odds are better?
The object is to match winning lines as closely as possible. If 70% of winning lines can be categorized by parameters, the question on everyone's mind should be how many lines are in that pool compared to the whole universe of that game. As I said earlier, if the pool is 70% of the total in order to win 70% of the time it is obviously meaningless. But if the pool is as low as 30% of the total it would be a valuable tool.
In other words, even though you give up winning 30% of the time, you wou

Maryland Mega Millions winners claim prize anonymously
Good thing they at least shared some background information about themselves. This will allow those McDonalds employees who were a part of Mirlande Wilson's pool to just go about their business making happy meals. Lesson learned from this fiasco even though the real winners had formed an ad hoc lottery pool that could have resulted in similar drama had the lady with the tickets had been unscrupulous is to either never join a lottery pool or treat entering into one the same way you would buying a

Maryland Mega Millions winner already in pool dispute
Maximumfun. Where I am, we have a 2 week pool with a sign up list and rules, etc.
My pool rules may seem a bit too much, but I hope they save us when the pool wins.
I list them every two weeks in my blog for the current two week period.
This way it keeps potential problems and disputes to a minimum.

Ruling by Justice Dept. opens a door on online gambling
Yawwwwwwnnnnnnn...
This is a big yawwnner for me. As far as I'm concerned, if I cant buy tickets from other states, this is no big deal.
If I am in a state that is in the Megamillions pool or a in a state that is in the Powerball pool then I should be able to buy ANY kind of tickets I want from those other multi-state pool members online.
