Forbes: Tonight's $312M Mega Millions lottery is a sound investment
Editor's Note: Tonight's $312 million Mega Millions drawing takes place at 11:00 pm Eastern Time (8:00 pm Pacific Time). The winning numbers will be published at USA Mega (www.usamega.com) and at Lottery Post's Lottery Results page.
Playing the lottery is a fool's errand. Everyone knows it's a losing gamble, that the house wins and that, especially as jackpots increase, the odds of winning are slightly lower than the odds of getting struck by lightning twice. (Just ask this guy.) In tonight's

What Does It Take To Win (Mathematically Speaking?)
How many times? Never. If I'd started at the beginning of the universe (big bang) until now there would still be a several trillion year shortfall to give sufficient time.
I don't quite follow which theory you say I do or do not follow. I can tell you though that playing 60~120 predetermined combinations in the last 30 draws in Texas I would have had 5~7 straight wins just by playing the edges of the bell curve. Turn it upside down and it better represents the money pit that it is. By playin

What Does It Take To Win (Mathematically Speaking?)
I agree, in fact states walk a thin line when they release news about players winning multiple jackpots along with a warning that players should play responsible. They are saying players who spend a lot win more and losers who spend a lot lose more but their main mission is to increase sales and hopefully with folks who have more disposable income to waste.
My response to your comments about Gail Howard was to note that while she claims to have won some money playing lotteries she never clai

Keep playing old games or move onto new ones?
I would be torn between the games as I am in the same situation now. I first was thinking that if I devoted all my funds to the old game with perhaps fewer tickets due to sales over time that I could increase my odds. But at the same time the new games seem to have one or two of their jackpots hit with in the first 3 to 4 weeks.
So, that is what I am doing, I'm playing Color of Money since it is new for a couple weeks or maybe until the 1st jackpot hits and cutting way back on any older 10.00

How Many Pick 5 Lines Did You Play ?
Dayum that is a shame....
BTW - I checked out New Yorks Take 5 ...They play 1-39 balls. FL uses 1-36 Balls, so its actually easier in FL vs NY in terms of odds. NY should increase the jackpot size considering the odds =)
I guess FL has more people that play and we have a much higher payout due to more ticket sales..
Good luck man!

CA - Fantasy 5
I think that California Fantasy 5 game really should start at $100,000 prize instead of the measly $50,000 starting point.
I don't really like to play much unless the amount is over $100,000 or more, and really pile on when it is over $250,000 or at record levels like now at over $608,000.
Every time it goes over $100,000 the participation seems to increase and increments by $100,000 or more every day anyway. So they should be able to do this without changing the game format. Or do you thi

Missouri Senate to discuss privatizing state lottery
A couple of things - governments are made up of people, just like corporations. There are certainly smart people in government, just as there are some idiots in the private industry. Don't be so quick to dismiss the experience of public employees just because they work for the government.
Secondly - there are a number of people in every state who don't favor the Lottery. Usually, it's because they make money from a segment of the population who may not be wise with how they spend their money
