Playing Holiday instant tickets.
About the odds, I've noticed the odds climbing up for GA's scratchers as well. A couple of years ago, we would get new instant games with odds for $2 in the 3.6 or low 3.7-range and $5 in the 3.3 to 3.5-range and $10 tickets with odds lower than 3. Jingle Jumbo Bucks is the first new $10 game in a long time to have odds lower than 3. Recent $2 tickets (except for Stocking Stuffer, with overall odds of 3.76) have been near 4 if not over that (Loteria, despite me having decent luck on them, has th

Probabilty of Someone Winning a PB & MM Jackpot in the same Week!
John has it exactly right, assuming one ticket for each drawing. The fact that a bunch of posters here don't understand the math doesn't change the facts. Having two tickets makes you twice as likely to win, whether it's two tickets for one drawing or one ticket for each of two drawings. The chances of two events happening is the probability of one event time the probabilty of the second event, so the chances of winning PB and MM when you buy one ticket for each of two drawings ineach game is

Lotteries long for 'jackpot fever'
Agreed, the lotteries have brought this on themselves by ever increasing the odds. Once upon a time 80million to 1 was the Powerball odds, now we are expected to buy in to 145million to 1 odds. People just aren't as dumb as they would like. My suggestion is to drop the odds on the regular powerball to 100million to 1 and add a Mini-Powerball game with something like 30million to 1 odds. This way players can choose from a long shot to a very long shot depending on their personality. Right no

Breakfast buddies file suit over lottery ticket
Rlevins,When you buy 10 combos at 175 million to one odds of hitting the jackpot you are saying that your odds are lowered to 17.5 million to one if I'm not mistaken.I understand what you are saying when you extrapolate and buy all 175 million combos. But this concept would have to be accepted on an extremely sliding scale .But going back to the original example......what happened to those other 174,999,990 combinations that could have beat you? They don't just disappear (as hypersoniq so eloqu

Do you buy few tickets each time or wait?
I looked on a website about the Florida Lottery's odds on a website (henrydavidmoran.blogspot.com): The odds of winning are astronomical. The odds of winning a six-number lottery are 22,957,480 to 1. How difficult is that? Imagine trying to pick the ace of spades out of a deck of cards. Then imagine picking the ace of spades out of 1,000 decks, where there is only one ace of spades. It would be hard enough picking the right deck. Lottery odds equate to picking the ace of spades out of 441,490 d

Powerball Lottery States Vote to Change Game
Quote: Originally posted by tony95 on April 7, 2005The current odds of 120m-to-1 are depressing as it stands and odds of 146m-to-1 are ridiculous at best. Even the Mega Millions is better at 130m-to-1 which has been described as infinitesimal by statisticians.... I hope the powerball officials are not doing this just because the numbers were hit early a few times, because that can happen again at 146m-to-1, and if it does, are they going to raise them again? I don't think the public needs to h

PB Drawing for Saturday 12-18-04
Quote: Originally posted by RJOh on December 18, 2004Quote: Originally posted by JAG331 on December 18, 2004FYI, the odds of having all 5 drawn numbers within your allotted 10 numbers are 1:11,388. Once you manage that, you've got a 1:252 chance of winning $100,000 on any given line. The regular odds of matching 5of5 in PB is 1:2,939,677. Multiplying 11,388 by 252 equals 2,869,776. Does this mean your odds of matching 5of5 is improved by playing from a pool of 10 numbers instead of 53?RJOhRJO

Why is the Pick 3 so popular?
Doctor was right...you don't have to pay taxes on your winnings for one thing. But the biggest advantage in the P3/4 games is that the lottery pays you 50% of what the odds are. For example the new IL Little Lotto lottery pays you 10.00 for getting 3 out of 5 and yet the odds are 103 to one of doing so. The payoff should be in the $50 range based on the odds and the 50% takeout. Look at the back of your bet slips for the odds to payoff ratio.Pick3/4 is the most profitable, the jackpot games ar

Buying more tickets = reduced odds
Colin,I think we all know the difference between giving odds and taking odds. They're just two ways of saying the same thing, and in an honest game there's no advantage of one over the other.I think Professor Croucher is right to some extent because the odds of the game don't change no matter how many tickets a player buys. The odds of the game are also unaffected by the most brilliant strategy or exotic computer program.Of course, every different ticket that any individual buys is another chanc

An Idea for Mega Millions
depends on the odds fja. when it was the washington state lottery i'd be happy at 5 million but it was a 6/44 game then. I played (and lost) in the oregon state lottery when it was at 20 million and its a 6/48 game. when quinto hits around 1.6 million (a pick 5/52 cash all at once) i play but the odds are only 1:2.5 mil.big games like powerball/ mega have terrible odds. thats a fact. and to have big prizes they need those odds otherwise i'd ONLY play quinto since 1.6-2.2 million would really cha
