Can one spouse take lump while the other takes an annuity?
What you could do is take the lump sum and then place her portion into a variable annuity. You still achieve the same result...you get your lump sum and she gets her annuity. There is always more than one way to get from point A to B.

South Carolina's billion dollar mega millions ticket
Actually, players in Texas must specify cash or annuity at the time of ticket purchase. If they buy QP tickets from a vending machine I believe it's automatically cash option. I don't do that, I use playslips, and they have to be marked cash or annuity.

Powerball joins lottery frenzy with $620 million jackpot
Thinly veiled political opinion. Meatman is correct, the reduction in CV value vs. annuity is driven by rising interest rates as it is with any other annuity. Interest rates are being raised to curb inflation by the Fed, not a reflection of how the overall economy is doing. Economics 101

Powerball joins lottery frenzy with $620 million jackpot
Yep! It's crazy how much the bond prices can sway the anticipated value of the annuity. I forgot to mention that to I*won, that the reason why there is such a large difference is because the bond prices go up and down, thus affecting the ratio between the actual CV and the anticipated annuity value.

Mega Millions sets world record with $1.6 billion lottery jackpot for Tuesday drawing
This article made no claim that it's the better choice. That's your own personal belief. If you don't think you can manage that much money successfully, then you don't have to take the lump sum should you win. Better yet, do not play when the jackpot gets this high. I have news for you, crooked lawyers and fund managers have bankrupted winners who took the annuity. Bad life choice and bad investments have bankrupted winners who took the annuity. Annuity winners are not less likely to spend it

Mega Millions $252,000,000.00
Thanks music. As far as the advice to take the annuity to avoid blowing it all, how often does that really happen anyway? I know the media drags out the same few stories of the people who were stupid with their winnings and are now living on welfare but I would think those cases are sensationalized to make it seem like it's a huge risk for all winners. I believe I read somewhere that 95% of winners take the lump sum. There must be hundreds, if not a few thousand multi-million dollar jackpot

Option for annuity vs. lump sum on lesser prizes?
I will be honest of what you're asking. I don't think a lot of people understand what the situations might be which way they go with it . most people will take the cash because if you take annuity you have to understand the interest rates the feds and everything . If it is annuity , what are the repercussions? The When my dad was alive he always said take the cash because basically I think if you ever hits lottery and if they die I think the state takes it back

$522 MILLION: Mega Millions jackpot increased again
With the annuity, is the taxes lock in for 30 years. How about the state you win, hikes the lottery tax law by 12%. What will happen to the annuity? If you don't know that is find. When I win will ask and experience lawyer and tax accountant. You just have a good point in your previous post.

$502 MILLION: Mega Millions grows to 10th-largest lottery jackpot of all time
You know when you look at this list it's so weird to see that some annuities have a higher cash prize while being in itself a lower amount for instance the 2016 MM (#6 for Cash) has a lower annuity amount than the #9 2013 MM even though the 2013 was a whole 100M (annuity) greater. Anyways I believe this jackpot will see a winner for Friday in Maryland or Tuesday VA.
