$25 mil Mega Millions jackpot sold in Washington State
The 15 million is an ANNUITY, Cash was 10 million which split means they walk away about with 5 million each before taxes. It's unlikely either would choose such a low annuity.

$333 MILLION: Powerball offers up summertime riches
l glance at the annuity ever so now and then just because the powers that be have posted it in the Usamega section. It would really work for people who have difficulty controlling their spending habits.David Lee Edwards would have been a perfect candidate to take the annuity... just saying.

$540 MILLION: Mega Millions jackpot raised on huge sales
of course they do. maybe a younger person shouldn't but they do. if that's the case why bother with this list showing daily the all time annuity payouts if no one ever takes the annuity. the daily article on the jackpot amount is fine but to scroll down past that list to read it is getting annoying.

$415 MILLION: 3rd-largest Mega Millions jackpot ever
You're welcome. Some past jackpots actually had cash value ratios of less than 50% of the annuity. This current jackpot cash value is 69% of the advertised annuity.

Anyone else notice this about Mega Millions
I wasn't referring to all of the cash in the current jackpot just the previous increase. An annuity valued at $9 million with a cash value of $10.8 million would require a negative interest rate. Simply put, your cash investment of $10.8 million would give you an annuity with a value of $9 million.

How much is "life changing"?
Your math is wrong. I calculated that for a NY resident living outside NYC or Yonkers, I would get roughly 41% of the advertised annuity. In order to get $20M ( thus splitting it and getting $10M) you would need at least $48M Annuity, not even taking into account the NYC withholding.

Cynthia Stafford's Home In Foreclosure and Bentley For Sale
She didn't receive over $100 million as $112 million was simply the annuity value. The cash value was $67 million and that was before taxes. She split the money with her father and brother so what was left was only a fraction of the annuity prize.

How are annuities created and paid?
I can t find a really good description of annuities for lottery winners and have a couple of questions: How is an annuity created for a Texas lottery winner? Is it done through an insurance company or some other way? And then who actually issues the annuity payments (checks, direct deposits, etc.) to lottery winners? An insurance company, TLC, the Texas State Comptroller, somebody else?

How soon till the next $ Billion $ Jackpot?
The cash jackpot was increased $12.1 mil
There's your explanation. A month ago the record jackpot had a cash value of $983.5 million, which was almost exactly 62% of the annuity value of $1,586.4 million. If the current annuity had the same ratio the available cash would mean an advertised annuity jackpot of $203.6 million for Wednesday's drawing.
Last time around the advertised annuity jackpot rolled from 180 to 202, which would have meant 111.6 to 125.2 for the cash value. That means t

Phony Powerball tickets flood social media in wake of $1.6 billion jackpot
Sure you might have a year to come forward... as long as you #1)want the annuity #2) dont mind losing out on the interest you would have otherwise earned re: your annual payment. (in RI you have a year to collect on a ticket but only 60 days from the drawing date to choose the cash option. from day 61 to day 365 you are only option is annuity.)
