My husband's brother won the lottery but hasn't offered to help us out.
This a a very good reason why winners should be allowed to remain anonymous. Winners find some relatives expect help . Some winners go broke helping others.

$1 million hasn't changed Iowa lottery winner
Good grief, wish you'd give it (whining about anonymity) a rest. They have it in Australia, great, but for the life of me, I can't figure out why you're so anal about the subject here in the states - which is none of your business. A lottery winner's family is going to know about it, anonymous or not and family is where the most pressure (and danger) comes from, NOT the public.

$1 million hasn't changed Iowa lottery winner
It is great that he has kept his feet on the ground. But it would be much easier if winners were allowed to remain anonymous. When it is public knowledge that you have won a large amount, it can a lot of pressure on winners to 'help' others. Which sounds like a good thing to do, it can wreck the winners long-term financial security.

Rural Kansas couple wins $9.85 million Hot Lotto jackpot
They should have taken advantage of the fact that the Kansas Lottery allow winners to remain anonymous. I suspect, down the track, they will wish they had.

Special Circumstance Anonymity Protection?
I believe that you would be able to remain anonymous in many states if you have a protective order or can prove there is a good reason to keep your information private.
North Carolina, for instance, has says right on their website:
Q:If I should win a large top prize, do I have the option of remaining anonymous with regard to the media and the public?
A: The NCEL will consider a winner s name, city/county, and the prize amount a matter of public record, unless the winner pr

Congratulation to the winner. He wants to keep his life simple. Since he claimed the money anonymous, it could happen.

Can I be anonymous when I win in California?
Only if you play your states Pick-3 or Pick-4 lottery as there are so many winners that you can blend into the crowd. But if the average prize of your state lottery is $2 Million, just buy either $400 worth of Pick-4 same set of numbers straight on each ticket ot $4K on Pick-3 using the same method. If you win, you can chose to be anonymous.
