National Lottery computer fiasco cost winner £800,000
The article is claiming that the winner lost out because the prize was smaller than it would have been. A subscription can't do anything to prevent that possibility. OTOH, it's also possible that the winner gained 1.3 million pounds by not having to split it with another winner.

Piqua lottery winners unveiled to cheers, tears of joy
Another article says they bought tickets at multiple locations. They presumably won with a ticket that had 5 plays on it, and had 11 plays on other tickets.

$207M Mega Millions lottery winners happy, but waiting
Actually, it has more to do with what state they won the prize in (Ohio). If I recall, several years ago a group of Georgia players split a Mega Millions jackpot and was able to get payouts in different ways. Also, it's possible that the lawyer quoted in the article was wrong.

Costa Rica court rejects washed lottery ticket
The article doesn't even come close to offering enough information to suggest that it would have been reasonable to pay the claim. OTOH, it does include two statements indicating that at least part of the ticket is either missing completely, or at least illegible. Knowing that a winning ticket was sold but unclaimed supports the claim, but does absolutely nothing to prove it.

Is the Lottery only for humans?
In a Lotto World magazine article many years ago jackpot winning numbers were attributed to a cat playing with a lotto shaker pen which was a small globe with tiny balls which fell into a tiny tube atop the pen. Lotto World is no longer published.
