what gods do i have to blaspheme, to be worthy of this particular curse? i agree with above posters about it being only the sad sack stories getting reported. i mean headlines like lotto parents buy daughter; a single mother, a house: children off to college just dont cut it. it seems winning lotto doesnt increase IQ, or make you any more content. it just means when you mess things up, you get to make a bigger disaster of things.

Well sweetbitterkiss, The price and odds are determined by the size of the population which can play, the jackpots, etc... So the larger the jackpots and the less tickets sold = higher prices. The less the jackpots and the more tickets sold = lower prices. Those are just simple examples, it can be made way more complicated if those who run the lottery choose. "Red game, Green game" - why not
One of the casinos I worked in had Red Game - Green game Keno, to increase the Keno business. The way it worked was you played your ticket and the writer asked you if you wanted to play ot for the green game, too. The cost of the ticket then doubled, but you were in action for two drawings, not one. You kept the same numbers, but if you spent the additional dollar (or whatever you had played the ticket for) the same numbers were good for the green drawing to. I wonder if any state lottery

I could almost understand the logic of playing the extra buck or two if it added money to the all the prizes but it doesn't and the odds of one ticket matching all 6 numbers is still 24 million to 1. People play pick-3 or pick-4 numbers multiple times to increase the winnings, but there is a huge difference when the odds are 1000 and 10,000 to 1 and much less for the box bets.
