Pacattack05...you got me thinking, as I so often do when I am driving through various communities that starting up your own banking institution after hitting the lotto is a brilliant idea. Although I do not do any of my investing through banks or credit unions, you have to admit that it is an excellent business where you can guarantee people 0.2 - 6 percent interest on their savings while at the same time charging them 6 percent on their mortgages, 4 - 15 percent on their automobiles (BTW tho

Where do you guys come up with the 35% Federal Tax rate
four4me....your post was accurate except for the word due. When one says total tax due I take it that would be the total tax liabilty when everythinng is all said and done.
What you are talking about here is tax withheld. The tax withheld for a MD resident would be as you stated. The tax is not due as you don't even see it, it is taken out before you get your cut of the money. Your total tax due (meaning what you will owe in total taxes when it is time to settle your tax bill with the I

Is there a ...
Is there a way to finding a lead number in either pik 3 or 4 to help narrow down a possible straight hit? If I know the number will possibly be 2105 or 7203, and wanted to increase my odd's of hitting a straight.
Is there a thread that serves as a triple indicator? I remember reading one before, but cannot locate it. Like certain key digits numbers would bring doubles while others would bring triple.
Thanks LP

Lottery winner followed careful spending plan
I think you overlooked one very powerful form of investing when considering aggresive style investments. This is commonly referred to as Hedge or Option trading.
Option trading (Hedge funds are a bit more complex, but use similiar concepts) are a powerful tool in one's investment technique to rapidly increase one's value. A simplistic example would be this, you purchase 100 shares of a stock for $10 per share. Then you sell a Call Option of $15 for $1 per share (profit of 10% spread over 3

I agree. I also don't think people should be using cell phones while driving. I realize they make life easier sometimes, but what did we do before? People take them into the bathroom. There's no place to hide any more. LOL
BTW, although it's been a fact for many years, did you know that countless millions of migrating birds die every year because they fly into cell phone towers? This isn't one of those silly rumors either. About 5 years ago I read on the U.S. Fish Wildlife site

Lottery winner followed careful spending plan
Winning a jackpot doesn't do anything to prove a system worked. That his system lead him to choose the numbers that won is obviously a good thing for him, but that's no different than saying QP's are the best strategy because most winners used them. If 3% of players are named Fred then about 3% of winners will be named Fred, but nobody thinks that changing their name will increase their chances of winning. If 25% of players pick their numbers using a system then 25% of winners will have used

Lottery winner followed careful spending plan
If he really had a system, what faster way to increase your money and become a billionaire than to play the system. There have been quite a few large Powerball Jackpots since he won in May 2005 and I didn't see his system win these drawings.
Also, his boast of having a system and saying that when he won there were no systems on the internet and now they are all over the place (as if his win was the catalyst for systems coming of age) rings a litle hollow.
With all that said, congratulat

Powerball or MegaMillions which will grow to 300+million
It's done the way twisted described it, though I used slightly different numbers. The previous jackpot was advertised as $216 million with a cash value of about $127 million, so I figured a cash increase of about $32 million. I suspected the sales might have pushed it a bit higher than $127 million, but I didn't think it was worth looking up exact figures. I also just figure 30 cents of each dollar towards the jackpot.
FWIW, the Ohio lottery's website (www.ohiolottery.com) lists the cash

Mega Millions lottery jackpot increased to $216 million
Let the good times Roll! How exciting to see this game increase !
May I ask if the second tier prize has had more then 17 winners on that level? That seems awefully high. If I recall it averages around 7 or 8 . Just the thought of hitting the second tier level is happiness ! I was very shocked to see that Lil Ole Maryland actually got a second tier level winner. THere is hope for that state and I want to be the one to bring the BIG JACKPOT home to them!
