I definitely would NOT think of paying anyone $1,000,000 (if I won) or more just for doing me a favor. True it might be my best friend doing the favor and I absolutely would never even consider giving my best friend half of the jackpot (assuming there would only be one winner, without the duplicated ticket). No, I know what some of you're saying -- that even if I had won, it wouldn't have necessarily been the same four tickets that they would have gotten if they had actually used the machine correctly. But karmically, I would have known that I had gotten that win through someone else's loss (small though it may be), and I would still have felt guilty about it. Some of you are surely thinking What's the big deal? , I know And I probably would have gotten over it quickly if I had millions of dollars.

If indeed it is only $400, (and I just checked the Maine website and believe the $400 is the correct amount) you should be able to claim without filing any forms, thus no reports to gov't. agencies. Go to a lottery retailer and ask if they can cash a $400 ticket. Bet they can. Don't let the naysayers in this thread get you down. I've seen several threads here that they play Pick 3 on different tickets so the winnings won't go over $600 and they won't have to report and be taxed on the winn

Think of it as buying sports tickets or theatre tickets over the phone, and picking them up at the 'will call' window. The guy WILL sell them, or he would not print them. And retailers don't like to 'eat' anything, so I'm sure he knows his market. No point in arguing about this. I guess I am foolish to think there are ethics in gambling. Of course a person purchasing 10 tickets has a greater chance of winning than someone who buys only one. I was only saying that I don't believe in special treatment, and a store owner who prints extra tickets for his regular customers is giving them an advantage. I'm kinda with you: I have my own morals and my own ethics, they are basically things like don't mess with married women, don't mess with anyone under the age of 18, don't steal, don't commit crime: basically don't intentionally do things to hurt others, physically, mentally or financially.
