Statistical Analysis of Lottery Results
Nothing in nature is random . . . A thing appears random only through the incompleteness of our knowledge. Spinoza, Ethics I I never before read that, but I in my own came to know it and hardly know anything at all about Math, you only need a kindergarden kind of education to know that much. I, on very many of my LP posts have said that. ----------------

Pretend one or both of the sitiuations is happening to you
Copyrights and patents are not worth the paper they are printed on when it comes to that one thief acting alone. He doesn t care about law or ethics. Stopping him will be next to impossible. Unless you put him in a place where he can no longer benefit from your work, he will continue to rip you off regardless of the law, the courts, or you. Copyrights and patents are worthwhile when it comes to mega-sized corporations. They do care. They have a lot more to lose than just a few dollars. They w

Is it wrong to...?
I definitely would NOT think of paying anyone $1,000,000 (if I won) or more just for doing me a favor. True it might be my best friend doing the favor and I absolutely would never even consider giving my best friend half of the jackpot (assuming there would only be one winner, without the duplicated ticket). I would not want to share ANY jackpot - however the law forces me to do that with strangers that have matching numbers. I play jackpot games to get it all. I have given lottery tickets fo

An Ethical Dilemma...
No, I know what some of you're saying -- that even if I had won, it wouldn't have necessarily been the same four tickets that they would have gotten if they had actually used the machine correctly. But karmically, I would have known that I had gotten that win through someone else's loss (small though it may be), and I would still have felt guilty about it. Some of you are surely thinking What's the big deal? , I know And I probably would have gotten over it quickly if I had millions of dollars.

Letting Someone Else Claim My Powerball Winnings
If indeed it is only $400, (and I just checked the Maine website and believe the $400 is the correct amount) you should be able to claim without filing any forms, thus no reports to gov't. agencies. Go to a lottery retailer and ask if they can cash a $400 ticket. Bet they can. Don't let the naysayers in this thread get you down. I've seen several threads here that they play Pick 3 on different tickets so the winnings won't go over $600 and they won't have to report and be taxed on the winn

7-7-7 was a lucky day!!
Think of it as buying sports tickets or theatre tickets over the phone, and picking them up at the 'will call' window. The guy WILL sell them, or he would not print them. And retailers don't like to 'eat' anything, so I'm sure he knows his market. It's not a question of 'being fair' - it's called 'business', and it's not like a Casino because money and items change hands for future use, not on-the-spot like at a Blackjack table. If we wanted to get into 'fairness' and possibly 'ethics', t

7-7-7 was a lucky day!!
No point in arguing about this. I guess I am foolish to think there are ethics in gambling. Of course a person purchasing 10 tickets has a greater chance of winning than someone who buys only one. I was only saying that I don't believe in special treatment, and a store owner who prints extra tickets for his regular customers is giving them an advantage. My original comment about this matter was in response to a post stating that this was the case. Yes, it's true that nobody should wait un

Moral Question: Doctor or Lottery Winner?
I'm kinda with you: I have my own morals and my own ethics, they are basically things like don't mess with married women, don't mess with anyone under the age of 18, don't steal, don't commit crime: basically don't intentionally do things to hurt others, physically, mentally or financially. Don't drink and drive, etc. (although it is fun to screw with peoples' mentality at times..) I don't mind funding a food bank or a homeless shelter, or a place for battered women to go, things like tha
