Maryland $189M Mega Millions winner claims prize
Congratulations to the winner! I agree it is best to stay anonymous so people will not take advantage of him. The jackpot prize is really huge. I am looking forward winning the same amount too. I need to plan what will I do in case I win the jackpot!

Ohio man wins lottery, beaten and robbed at local bar
This is one of the reason why most winners would like to remain anonymous. Their safety is at risk and some people would like to take advantage of them. If I will win a lottery I will hire security to protect me.

Fresno man is $213 million California Powerball winner
The article mention that the winners are required to release their names, but they are not required to do a news conference. Does anyone know if this is only limited to doing an interview in front of a mdia, or if it also includes taking picutres of the winners. And if it applies to the rest of the states that is inluded in the lottery. This is something I always wanted to know since only a few states reuires you to remain anonymous.

Out of State PB
The tax advice you have received is on point. I however would still try my luck in AZ even if it's just one line. It would be easy to remain somewhat anonymous if you win in AZ but live in FL. Good luck however you decide.

$400 million S.C. Powerball winner to stay anonymous
Now I know it's possible to remain anonymous after winning in lottery in SC. It is good for the winner, he doesn't have to risk his safety. However, for the public if they don't know the winner they surely doubt if that winner really exist.

$400 million S.C. Powerball winner to stay anonymous
I can think of one off the top of my head.....one of the winners of the $587.5 million Powerball in 2012. The guy from Arizona...lottery said he wished to remain anonymous, but the Associated Press filed public records request and revealed his name.

$400 million S.C. Powerball winner to stay anonymous
Media has done this thousands of times actually, where do you think they get names sometimes. There are even some articles where the winners wished to remain anonymous claimed with a trust, but a paragraph later the name of the beneficiaries/settlors of the trust are revealed.

$400 million S.C. Powerball winner to stay anonymous
This is correct. Most people don't realize SC is not a true anonymous. Any SC citizen can file a Freedmon of Information request. I think this is the first winner (out of five that I remember) that did not come out publicly.

$400 million S.C. Powerball winner to stay anonymous
All it takes is one journalist, person who believes they have an interest in the ticket, believed creditor, or just random citizen questioning the legitimacy of the lottery drawing and the SC Lottery will release the information after Freedom of Information request. Most states, they will release it to media if they call. This does not mean you can claim anonymously in SC. The states that allow for anonymity state the option explicity. Just because the winner *wants* to remain anonymous, does
